If you've been wanting to start something up (business) or begin a project, how much money would need to get it going, and what would it be?

Asked by Jude (32198points) March 29th, 2009

Realistically speaking…

Something that you’ve been wanting to do.

Well, I think most of my projects just require time and few hundred dollars right now. Some of those projects could develop into businesses which would then require a larger infusion of cash, but they need to start as projects first.

A lot would depend on the exact nature of the product.

Mine is fairly cheap, art. :)

Most of my back-burner projects require time, not money.

To start up a business in today’s market would require some basic research to find a need that isn’t being filled in your area, or a business that has more customers than it can handle.

Most business models suggest you will need at least two years start up money before you can expect to break even. You would need to take all the costs of doing business into consideration, and make sure you aren’t missing anything.

One thing that is sorely needed in our area is personal care assistant for the elderly. For me, the cost would have to include salary for the workers I would hire to do the acutal care, and I would provide the referrals, and office assistance.
I suspect that amount would be around $500,000, including salaries, taxes, and business expenses.

I want to start a specific loss/grief related nonprofit in my area. There is no help offered currently and we have the highest loss rate in the U.S. where I live. It would cost 2,000 to do the necessary paperwork to make it official. (and then donations and grants after that to keep it running). But I won’t have that kinda extra money in quite awhile as I am saving up for a necessary surgery. But it is something I’m working towards, slowly but surely.
