What are you cooking?

Asked by charliecompany34 (7810points) April 8th, 2009

i am so hungry. i did not bring my lunch to work today. could have had “chyros” (something i substitute as chicken for lamb gyros) that i grilled last night. oh well.

teenage son ate it already.

i am grilling chicken to serve with rice and lima beans as we speak. anybody oppose? what, you don’t like legumes?

what are you cooking or eating right now? what do you have a taste for that you could cook right now?

I think for dinner tonight we will bake up some sweet potatoes whole. And have a big salad with it.

If I could be eating anything right now it would be a bacon pita, yum! I think I am craving the protein, lol.

Do you grill your chicken any special way? I’m just learning on the grill. LOL

gailcalled's avatar

Peach yogurt.

MissAusten's avatar

I made sandwiches for dinner and sliced up some fresh fruit. It was just me and the kids, and I didn’t feel like putting a lot of effort into anything!

chyna's avatar

Burger King cooked for me tonight.

charliecompany34's avatar

@chyna you cheated, but i feel ya! LOL!

El_Cadejo's avatar

Scrambled Eggs with Franks Red Hot.
i put that shit on everything….

Jude's avatar

I just ate the ears off of a chocolate Easter Bunny (dinner).

casheroo's avatar

We got Domino’s for dinner, it’s rare that we order out and I love Domino’s.

charliecompany34's avatar

@jmah are you serious? let me cook for you…

gailcalled's avatar

edit; My peach yogurt is made from a local cow’s milk and native peaches.

charliecompany34's avatar

i hooked up chicken gyros as my recipe for a spot on “grilling it” with bobby flay. didn’t make the food network cut, but maybe next year.

Jude's avatar

@charliecompany34 Haha, yup. The ears and coffee with Bailey’s. S’okay. I’m happy with it. =)

jbfletcherfan's avatar

We got a pizza from Papa Murphy’s. For anyone who doesn’t know what that is, they make it up as you order it, you bring it home & bake it yourself in your own oven. It’s hot & fresh. It’s sooooo good.

Bagardbilla's avatar

Tomato chicken curry w/ Mathi!
Some pita bread, and dill rice… yum yum.
Anyone in the neighborhood? you’re welcome to stop by! We have plenty for everyone.

squirbel's avatar

We made pot roast in a slow cooker, along with baked yams, and green beans!

[We could cut the pot roast with a plastic spatula, yummmm!]

And yesterday we had huge salad bowls with all sorts of toppings, and some already grilled chicken that you can find in the meat section.

Bluefreedom's avatar

A 12 oz. T-Bone steak, a baked potato, and a salad.

YARNLADY's avatar

@Bluefreedom—I am so jealous—Hubby mixed up a meatloaf over the weekend, and it is in the oven cooking now. I fried up some homemade french fries, and put an Acorn squash in the microwave. We will have mixed greens/carrot/cabbage salad with it, when he gets home, any minute now.

Bluefreedom's avatar

@YARNLADY. Your meal sounds healthier than mine and just as tasty. I’m jealous of yours too. =)

MissAusten's avatar

You should have asked this yesterday so I could have described the chicken baked with an orange balsamic glaze, the steamed asparagus with ceddar sauce, and the fresh strawberries. Then I could almost compete with @YARNLADY and @Bluefreedom !

squirbel's avatar

Hmmm, missausten, you sound like my fiance! He loves to cook meats with fruit additives!

I’m plain ol’, plain ol’.

jonsblond's avatar

I’m making Italian stuffed shells right now. The jumbo shells will be stuffed with a ricotta and Parmesan cheese mixture, topped with Italian sausage, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese.

charliecompany34's avatar

@jonsblond just saw giada on the food channel. eh, hem, very well endowed. sorry. what is it with these sexy women on food channel?

but anyway, she hooked up stuffed shells just today with spinach garlic and asiago cheese. to die for. were you inspired tonight by her recipe?

casheroo's avatar

@MissAusten mmm, sounds good!
yeah, you asked this on the one night of the month we get take out lol. my husband premade me chicken last night, and the night before we had chicken sausage ravioli with apple cidar vinegar/white wine sauce, and arugala salad with some vinegar and sugar

charliecompany34's avatar

@casheroo OMG! that sounds so good!

chyna's avatar

@charliecompany34 Got a liitle side tracked up there when trying to discuss jonsblonds stuffed shells didn’t you?

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

cooking up some lovin.

cak's avatar

My daughter cooked….let’s all say, “Mmmmm! Good!” she tried really hard! I’m proud of her. She’s banned from the garlic, but I am very proud of her, no vampires at my house, tonight!

exitnirvana's avatar

I made hot dogs smothered in baked beans, ketchup, and relish for dinner. Had to say, I was inspired by one of my favorites from Spikes.

jonsblond's avatar

@charliecompany34 As much as I like the food channel, this is a recipe that I have used for some time.

Well endowed? I didn’t know Giada had a penis.

Trance24's avatar

Currently i have a strawberry cake in the oven.

jonsblond's avatar

@Trance24 Strawberry cake? That sounds delicious. How do you make it?

MissAusten's avatar

I met Giada at a book signing once. She was very nice, certainly pretty, but her skin didn’t look nearly so perfect as on TV. Sorry, but I did not inspect her endowments. Maybe next time.

MissAusten's avatar

Oh! I made chocolate chip banana bread today! It was gooo——oood. The kids ate half the loaf at once this afternoon.

Jude's avatar

Tomorrow, I think that I’m gonna make some homemade spaghetti sauce (Mom’s recipe) with big chunks of spicy Italian sausage, green peppers, and mushrooms. I miss some good home cooking..

Trance24's avatar

Well when your not lazy its just a basic cake recipe with about two cups of fresh strawberries. However when you are beyond exhaustion like i was today you use a box. =]

cak's avatar

@Trance24 -—I’m coming to your house! I love strawberry cake!

May2689's avatar

Brownies!! They are in the oven as I type!

Deathcabforhottie's avatar

Hmmm… Thank god I have pumkin bread freshly made other wise I would go out and make all this stuff. But tonight I making spagehtii, my own recipe, which I personally love even if it is mine.

janbb's avatar

My husband made spinach and mushroom enchiladas with a homemade green tomitilla sauce. They were delicious! Since we’ve become quasi-vegetarians, we’ve been doing all kinds of Indian, Mexican, etc. cooking to make tasty food.

YARNLADY's avatar

@janbb I just bought a recipe book at the Afghan Restaurant we went to for Hubby’s birthday. Here is link to Vegetarian recipes around the world.

janbb's avatar

@YARNLADY Cool. Thanks!

AstroChuck's avatar

Have you looked at me? Baby, I’m always cookin’.

Blondesjon's avatar

Methamphetamine.

fireside's avatar

I had soup cooking on the stove for about seven hours yesterday, still have plenty.
Rotisserie chicken, peppers, onions, corn, long grain and wild rice, diced tomatoes, natural goodness broth, basil, garlic, crushed red pepper, rosemary.

ok, now i’m hungry again

cak's avatar

@fireside – If I bring you some homemade lemonade, I know poor exchange, can I have some soup? I love good soup.

fireside's avatar

@cak – sounds like a deal. If you bring lemons in the summer, I like to add zest and juice to the soup for a more citrusy taste.

cak's avatar

@fireside – perfect!

Jude's avatar

@fireside can I come, too? Sounds soo good!

fireside's avatar

@jmah – there’s lots of soup left- the more the merrier. I even brought a whole container over to my parent’s house and will still be having soup through the weekend, for sure.

Jude's avatar

@jmah mmm, I’m on my way (haha) with Quebec “Sugar Pie” in tow.

cak's avatar

@jmah – what is Quebec “Sugar Pie”?? A Pie that is completely dedicated to sugar? I’m all ears!

ru2bz46's avatar

I’m making curried red potatoes (made with homemade yogurt) with asparagus and jalapenos to pour over coconut basmati rice.

Jude's avatar

@cak Pretty much. Mostly brown sugar and toss in a 1/2 cup of walnuts and a cup of whipping cream. My fillings are rattling just thinkin’ about it. Very rich, but, oh, so good. Also, another traditional French Canadian dish (my Dad’s side is French Canadian) is Tourtière (meat pie). Delicious.

Sugar Pie

cak's avatar

@jmah – Oh. My. Goodness. I am really not a huge sweet eater, but an ode to sugar? I will be trying to make this! Thank you for the recipe!! :)

@ru2bz46 – that sounds great – anything with asparagus lasts for about a second, in our house. The jalapenos and curry sound like a good combination.

ru2bz46's avatar

@cak Yes, the curry is already spicy, but jalapenos just give it that extra little kick that it cries out for.

I’m also brewing up a triple batch of Turkish coffee (made from freshly roasted Kaua’ian beans) since I’m going in to work tonight.

Nimis's avatar

I made some soup from the leftover ketchup packets I found.
Okay. Not really. Just trying to sound really pathetic so charliecompany34 would volunteer to cook for me. :P

cak's avatar

@NimisI was going to have to locate you. I would have at least ordered some great take-out for you! There shall be no ketchup soup, on my watch! (my watch ends in about 45 seconds!)

@ru2bz46 – something about the difference in warmth between the curry and the jalapenos…yum! Um…does that coffee walk by itself? Sounds pretty stout!

Nimis's avatar

@cak You’re sweet. [smooch]

Darwin's avatar

My son’s team lost their baseball game, and my daughter’s Blackberry was stolen while she was at a tennis tournament (and she came in second instead of her usual first) so tonight it was the ultimate comfort food: Fettucine Alfredo, garlic bread, and tossed salad.

ru2bz46's avatar

@cak There is an old Turkish adage that coffee should be black as Hell, strong as death, and sweet as love. I make it by grinding two tablespoons of coffee with one or two cardamom pods to a fine powder. Put that in an ibrik with about a tablespoon of brown or raw sugar and two and a half shots of water. Slowly bring it to a boil four times and let the grounds settle. Pour it into a double shot demitasse cup until the grounds start to get into the cup. Now, that’s yum!

cak's avatar

@ru2bz46 – Holy cow. That is a serious cup of coffee! I would love to smell something like that, while brewing, but that is where it stops for me. I don’t drink coffee! I love to smell it being ground – that’s my favorite. I like to smell good coffee brew, but that’s where my romance with coffee ends. I know. Strange.

@Darwin – ack! I’m sorry both kids had a rough night. I hope the wonderful comfort food went over well!

exitnirvana's avatar

@Blondesjon hahah, be careful with that.

Darwin's avatar

@cak – The salad not so much, but the fettucine and the garlic bread vanished in a heartbeat. It must have made them feel better because then they went to bed early.

cak's avatar

@darwin – something must be in the air, mine (both!) went early, too.

Jack79's avatar

I just bought some wonderful fresh bread (still steaming from the oven) that I’m supposed to eat with the lentles from the other day (just need to warm them up). But I could not resist just spreading some butter on it instead.
