How can I stop Windows Vista from installing drivers?

Asked by Link (327points) April 15th, 2009

For the love of God, how can I stop Windows Vista from installing drivers? I’m trying to hook up MagicJack onto my computers, but Vista installs the drivers it wants (which conveniently don’t work!) before MJ can install it’s own drivers. I tried overriding this in the Windows Update Driver Settings, by telling Vista not to update any device drivers, but it’s still doing it! What real piece of crap OS.

Anyways I looked for answers on Google, and it seem that Vista stores drivers in a “store” so that’s why it keeps installing drivers on its own. Can anyone help me with this issue?

Have you tried installing the drivers before plugging in the device?
