Can I get out of my Alltel contract?

Asked by bmhit1991 (246points) June 18th, 2009 from iPhone

Now that Verizon has bought out Alltel, can I leave the carrier since I signed a contract with Alltel and NOT Verizon?

No. Alltel and your contract is now owned by Verizon. I am an Alltel customer as well.

If the contract is anything like those in the UK the only way you could cancel the contract is if they are unable to provide the same service.

You can cancel, but you’ll have to pay an early termination fee. I wouldn’t worry about they buyout. You most likely will see no change in your service. In fact, it will probably improve. I worked for Cingular/AT&T during that big merger/buyout and everyone freeeeeaked out over nothing. If you’re really that concerned, I would just call Alltel/Verizon. Chances are, they have people assigned to explain the situation to customers.

Also, here’s a link on Alltel’s website about the “integration”.

Thanks. I’m not really worried so much as I just want to leave and switch to AT&T.

I get something in the mail from Alltel about once a week explaining the merge. I’m really wanting to call them and say Ok! I get it already! How much longer do you have on your contract? I’m going to stick it out and see if I like it, but I really am hoping it stays the same like they say. I’d be lost without MyCircle! :)

Honestly, I called it my own to better explain it. It’s my friend that has this problem. His whole family wants iPhone 3G S’s now. Haha. (I’m to blame for that. LOVE mine) I figured that since the contract was with ALLTEL and NOT VERIZON, there was some loophole he could use to get out of it. Guess not. He’s just going to wait it out.

IS IT TRUE THAT WHEN AT&T TAKES OVER ALLTELL YOU CAN ACTIVATE THEIR PHONE AND YOU HAVE 30 DAYS IF YOUR NOT HAPPY WITH THEIR SERVICE YOU CAN RETURN THE PHONE AND GET OUT OF THE CONTRACT YOU HAD WITH ALLTELL AND NOT PAY ANY FEE?
