Why does packing suck so bad?

Asked by Allibaby808 (264points) July 9th, 2009

I always procrastinate having to pack before a trip cause I hate it so much.

Packing is short lived exercise which paves the way to a much longer period of good times.

Just keep in mind that you will not need as much as you think you do, and that clothes that look great at home sometimes should be passed over for solids that can be mixed and matched. Make a list.

Your suitcase may be too small.

Really? I think packing is fun. I’ll be doing it several more times this summer too and I am excited. :)

Well, I don’t sweat it. I just throw some clothes in the ‘case and go.

Because you actually have to stand up and do it, I’m a very lazy person at times and when I was moving I hated packing. There was so much stuff that I didn’t even need so instead of packing I actually started cleaning

I throw too much in, just in case I might need 3 pair of jeans, 4 pair of shorts, 8 shirts, 3 pair of shoes, 6 pair of underwear for a 2 day weekend.

I’m like @chyna but then I never have enough. I actually enjoy packing, but I do wait til the last minute so I don’t forget any of my favorite things.

I’m always afraid I’ll forget something, or take too much, or not enough, and just thinking about it paralyzes me.

7 day trip-2 pairs shorts, 2 pairs pants, 2 skirts, 1 dress, 5 shirts, bathing suit, sandals, flats that could pass a dressy, tennis shoes. pajamas, sweater, rain jacket. 7 days of undies. done.

I’m doing that right now. Not a single thing packed, we leave tomorrow. I hate unpacking even more.

I pack everything into plastic bags of different categories and I find that helps make packing very much easier, e.g. undergarments & socks, casual tops, going out at night tops, bottoms, sweaters, towels & pyjamas, stuff u just bought on ur travels. That way u only have to pull out the bag that u need at the time. Also, don’t forget to leave some room for additional miscellaneous items you may pick up while travelling.

Got back from Europe today and I am going to go out again soon, which means packing once again right away! But this is going to be awesome. Road trip to San Diego with the cutest boy on earth.

Try packing for a three month trip in one duffel. Now that’s a pain in the ass. ;-)

Good luck, though. I hate packing, too. Make a list and as you put things in your bag, check them off your list. I’m leaving in five weeks for my three month trip and I have a technique that works well for me. I have the bag I’m taking on the floor of my apartment, and as I see things that I’ll need to take with me, I toss them in the bag. If I go to the store to buy pain medication, it goes right into the bag when I get home. Seems to work well.
