What is something that has to happen in order for your summer to be complete?

Asked by noelasun (1894points) July 20th, 2009

I’m feeling like I’m reaching the final stretch of summer, without it having ever started for me!
Sleeping in and ice cream trucks were my previous tell tale sign of summer, now it’s pedicures and roadtrips. (which I’m overdue)

any ideas for this last stretch?
What make summer a reality for you?

Finishing my retarded summer reading so I can end on a relieved note.

Drinking beer and floating down a river, or playing bag toss

Vacation. I haven’t had a complete summer in 4 years.

An entire weekend spent in the pool, a belly full of s’mores, a camping trip and fresh tomatoes from the garden.

Oh yeah, and eating sliced summer sausage with Red Hot buffalo sauce. Mmmmm…

The year’s camping/hiking/kayaking trip. Without it I don’t even count that year as a year at all.

Picking a ripe red pepper of my jalapeno plant in the garden and popping in my mouth. That’s summer for me.

We always go to the beach. My foot and surgery has slowed us down, this summer…I want to go to the beach!

I have to go to Six Flags.

Going down to the shore. We usually go in May or June, which is when we went…but we’ll probably go back down in August.

Vacation has become a foreign word around here. Mine doesn’t feel started or finished because my son is away at wilderness camp.

It must become autumn.

I always go to the MN State Fair at the end of summer, that caps it off very nicely for me.

Rafting, eating watermelon, going to the pool, the beach, and getting a sunburn.
But it’s winter for me right now, so I’m pretty jealous of all of you. :(

@dalepetrie, is that the one where you can get absolutely everything on a stick?

dalepetrie's avatar

Anything in the world. We’ve got everything from Ostrich and Alligator on a stick, to deep fried candy bars, even spaghetti and meatballs on a stick. It’s a gastronomic orgy. Here’s a list of all the food that was available at last year’s fair. And eating is just a small fraction of the things you can do there. I contend that one experience everyone should enjoy is getting a bucket of Sweet Martha’s fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and walking down to the all you can drink milk booth. You’ll leave sore and bleary eyed and probably even a bit sleepy, but damnit, we Minnesotans are hearty stock, we can take it.

@dalepetrie I’ve heard about your fair. You can get anything fried on a stick. I would love to visit! Fried oreos are on my list of things I must try before I die.

@jonsblond – Seriously, I’ve heard people from all over the country say MN has one of the best if not the best state fair. If you and your family ever do come up, look me up and I can give you a list of other things to do while you’re here (as well as insider info on the fair)....we’ve got a lot more to see and do in the Twin Cities than most people would ever believe (until they actually came here). It’s held every year for the 12 days up to and including Labor Day. We have concerts there every night (major headliners), as well as various other stages with free live music, a huge midway, a separate kids midway, a dozen huge buildings with exhibits and several merchandise/exhibitor buildings, a children’s theater, live animal barns, a horse show, a parade, live radio and TV broadcasts, tons of giveaways (big and small, like stuff they’ll just give you and other stuff you can sign up to win), and fireworks every night. Seriously, we will go out there at 9am and walk around until 11pm and not see everything in one day, it’s just massive. I’d say it’s definitely worth a trip from Illinois some day. And PS, strangely enough, probably the best thing they have to eat on a stick there in my opinion is this corn on the cob, they grow it right there it’s just incredibly sweet, and they dunk the think in melted butter, it’s like a desert.

Water of some sort. Surfing, swimming or even splashing through fountains.
