What is Scrat's role in the Ice Age movies?

Asked by atlantis (1862points) July 25th, 2009

I haven’t seen Ice Age 3 yet but what is Scrat exactly? I first thought he was the comedy relief but do you need those in a comedy? I think there is some greater symbolism and it has something to do with humans in the ice age. I think it’s pointing to the go-getter culture we have developed. Any thoughts?

I think Scrat is trying to teach us that there might be obstacles that we have to face in life to get what we want but you have to overcome those obstacles to get what you want.

Scrat is a squirrel I guess, Im not exactly sure what his role was but I agree with @applesaucemanny to get things in life you have to go through things, in the begining of the Ice Age 1 he is struggling to get a nut, in Ice Age 3 he finds love

Scrat is called scrat because he is a prehistoric cross between a squirrel and a rat.

~ His purpose is to show children the dangers of drinking too much coffee and obsessing over your nuts.

Scrat is the invention of Blue Sky Studios co-founder Chris Wedge. Chris has said that Scrat, whose voice he provides, is his alter ego.

I think Scrat represents that person who is always running after something but never gets it…
