Anyone use the DivX software? How? Where are you getting the video from?

Asked by Quagmire (2088points) August 12th, 2009

The site is DivX.com. I’m not sure what to do with it. Where do I get the videos from? The one demo they have on the site I downloaded and it looks great. I want others. Please advise.

Don’t use that, it’s bloatware.

Download CCCP, and you’ll never need another codec. It comes with MPC, which is a gret media player, too.

DivX is garbage.

Why do I want either of these over my iTunes or Windows Media Player or Realplayer?

DivX videos aren’t something you need to go looking for. Many videos (like some on YouTube, certain blogs, movie rips, etc.) have been made using DivX codecs, and if you also have the DivX codecs on your computer, they will play back with the best clarity of sound and video. Once you’ve installed it, you’re done. It’s just a tool to help you get the most out of certain media that you come across.

(P.S. – Real Player is a disaster, trying to update itself all the time, constantly trying to access the internet while playing files without asking you, and hogging system resources worse than anything I’ve ever seen. If you have it, uninstall it.

Windows Media Player doesn’t play many formats, so is limited in what it can do for you.

iTunes is accepted as a terrific music player and library organizer, but is also limited in what it is good for.

If you were looking for a single multi-format player, as many others here would suggest, go to download.cnet.com and get VLC Player (search for it). It plays any format of anything that exists, audio and video.)

Seconding VLC. I use it for all my video playback. And if want to download high quality I would look into Bittorrent.

But bittorrent is the illegal stuff, no?

SecondGlance's avatar

Yep, and a those services are also a primary source of viruses. I don’t use them myself, but everyone else I know does. Be aware of what you are getting into!

I stay away from the high risk stuff.

@SecondGlance With all the torrents i downloaded and plenty other people i know have NEVER had a virus , its called read the comments and only take from people known for great rips and no bad shit . AXXO or someone .
Any page / attachment online from any site could contain a virus .

And for a codec pack use k-lite , it’s very good and full to the top . If you copy films to disk using divx format means you get more to one disk so i have been told
