In 20 words or less tell what political party you support and why?

Asked by jaketheripper (2779points) August 19th, 2009

Use only positive ideas your party supports, not attacks at other parties. (ie, because X party is full of idiots)

I find no party as constituted now very satisfactory, and prefer to remain unaffiliated.

potrick's avatar

I, too, am an independent, because its impossible for all my views to align with one of two self-interested political parties.

jaketheripper's avatar

I align closest with the Libertarian party because I hate the Idea of the government controlling more than the bare minimum

kevbo's avatar

Green. Peace, sustainability, justice.

doggywuv's avatar

@jaketheripper I too think I align with the libertarian party because I want the population to have a high degree of freedom, including the freedom to own property. Though I’m not sure.

JLeslie's avatar

Democrat: pro-choice, wary of big business, wants to hear as much information as possible on a topic, considers all people in society, alternative energy. I might be more likely to be independent, but in some states you cannot really participate in the primaries.

dynamicduo's avatar

I support no party. They are all characters putting on the same show, making any promise the public wants in order to get into power.

Sampson's avatar

(Although it’s not really a party, as much as a philosophy,) Libertarian-Socialism because it maximizes individual freedom while squandering the possibility that fascism will occur.

Facade's avatar

I don’t support any party. My views are constantly changing, so I couldn’t possibly pick a side.

teh_kvlt_liberal's avatar

Whoever supports gay zombie rights and the right to shoot incompetent mailmen.
The Wes party!

Noel_S_Leitmotiv's avatar

The Republican party, because i’m a conservative, because i make decisions based on my thoughts, not my emotions.

dpworkin's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv If you made decisions solely on your emotions would you belong to the Birthday Party? The Goth Party? The 2-Year-Old Party?

teh_kvlt_liberal's avatar

Also if No ma’am was a political party, I’d support it….

JLeslie's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv just curious, do you feel the Republican party has been conservative lately? I too am generally conservative on fiscal matters, but the social ones mean more to me in the end.

Noel_S_Leitmotiv's avatar

@JLeslie: Im very alarmed by the republican partys slide to the left. I was disgusted by McCains emergence as the Republican candidate.

Obamas thinly veiled socialist agenda means that McCain was the clearly better choice, but that obviously isnt saying very much at all.

Sampson's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv What is your definition of socialism?

Noel_S_Leitmotiv's avatar

In this case i mean a shift to more and more government forced ‘equality’ of and for citizens.

Government forced income redistribution

Growth of goverment through greater and greater control of:

The banking industry.

The automobile industry.

The healthcare industry.

The broadcast industry.

and so on.

JLeslie's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv How do you define conservative?

Sampson's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv What specifically is Obama doing that ‘forces’ people to be ‘equal?’

doggywuv's avatar

@Sampson I’m pretty sure Obama increased taxes for the rich and decreased taxes for the poor, making a more progressive taxation, thereby redistributing wealth and creating more equality.

doggywuv's avatar

@Noel_S_Leitmotiv I think that the GOP is becoming more progressive because they need to adapt to changing times.

As for Obama, I would still call him a capitalist and not a socialist.

Sampson's avatar

@doggywuv That’s something that I wouldn’t disagree with at all when the gap between the Have’s and the Have-not’s is increasing at the rate that it is.

tinyfaery's avatar

I don’t support any political party, but I actively vote against and repudiate the Republican party.

Why: Keep your religion out of my government.

potrick's avatar

@Noel S Leitmotiv

This is completely disingenuous. The Republicans and the Democrats appeal to emotion in equal doses. Yes, Democrats use extremely populist rhetoric when it comes to issues like the economy, the environment and trade agreements; however, Republicans are just as populist when it comes to gay marriage, abortion and health care. Have you been watching the town hall screamers? That’s completely emotion with no thought whatsoever. Not defending Democrats here, just saying that if you think Republicans don’t use emotion to make decisions, or manipulate emotions to make people agree with decisions, you’re delusional.

Steven0512's avatar

Republican mainly because I enjoy keeping the money I work so hard to earn.

ubersiren's avatar

I don’t support any political party because I don’t agree more than 30% with any of them. I tend to lean toward libertarianism or anarchism, but I don’t know that I would identify myself as either. I’m probably sympathetic to their ideals most, though. In reality, it’s ever-changing for me. I guess that makes me wishy-washy, but I can’t help it.

ubersiren's avatar

Oops, I didn’t follow the 20 words or less rule.

dalepetrie's avatar

I believe in a strong social safety net and government which looks out for its people which equals liberal, not Democrat.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i’m not affiliated, but i’m pretty ‘liberal’, because i believe in rights for all people, not just some people. also, i enjoy the idea of ‘separation between church and state’, and would like to see it enforced more strongly one day.

i didn’t count my words, but i kept it short!

filmfann's avatar

Last I checked, Liberal was not a political party.
I am a Moderate Democrat. I believe in gay rights, pro-choice, womens rights, anti-drug, conservative spending and I support the Church, and it’s seperation from government.

critter1982's avatar

Republican/libertarian: I believe our rights bestowed onto us by the government, are rights of action, not of handouts. I believe in less
government intervention and I believe in personal responsibility with repercussions for the lack of the aformentioned.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

@filmfann i know that, but i don’t closely associate myself with either party, and that is the closest thing i can identify with

filmfann's avatar

@tiffyandthewall I also wish there was a moderate party

seVen's avatar

Constitutional Party
because it is what protects my and everyones God given rights!

Darbio16's avatar

I’m part of the human race party, aren’t we all? If the political leaders were playing a game of “divide and conquer” I’d say they are winning.

mattbrowne's avatar

I’m a moderate liberal, because I think solidarity is a key success factor for any society in the long run. Oops, 21 words. Sorry.

mattbrowne's avatar

@critter1982 – Isn’t I’m (i.e. I am) 2 words?

critter1982's avatar

Well I always seemed to get pretty poor grades in english but I am fairly positive that, I am is two words, but the conjunction, I’m, connects two words together to make one? I could be wrong though. Not really that big of a deal either. :)

mattbrowne's avatar

Shall we ask @Jeruba?

JLeslie's avatar

I would say I’m is one word, but I’m no expert.

dpworkin's avatar

I have decided to join the I’m Party. I’ll tell you my reasons later.

Darbio16's avatar

Who is gonna clean up the mess from all of your parties?

mattbrowne's avatar

@JLeslie – Thanks! So I honored the limit ;-)
