Has anyone tried the Master Cleanse diet?

Asked by bumwithablackberry (932points) August 27th, 2009

I did, but only for a week, is that wrong to do? Is this diet healthy? Does it totally clean out your body? Such as whatever caused those blisters on my feet from shoveling that dirt from the jet fuel dump?

All of those “cleansing” diets are not only useless, they can be dangerous. Do yourself a favor, and review some of the debunking sites on the web, and be grateful nothing went really wrong.

No it is not a healthy diet. The body is designed, by millions of years of evolution or God dependong on your view point, to eliminate normal everyday toxins from itself through the lungs, kidneys, liver etc… Weird fad diets are not going to help it do its job.

Oh… and getting boots that fit and wearing decent socks will help with the blisters.

I haven’t tried that one, but I am currently doing a colon cleanse/ liver detox. Make sure you do research on the ingredients used before starting any type of diet or cleanse.

I tried it and lasted about 3 daysbefore I got really sick. Headaches and throwing up. Yuck.

If you’re referring to the diet where you drink a bunch of stuff and some sort of alien-like sludge comes out of you…. the stuff you’re drinking is what makes the sludge! Don’t be fooled!

I’ve had a few friends who did the diet throughout the entire course and one who only made it two weeks. They had varied results but I think part of it was the placebo effect. One thing is for certain is they definitely lost weight and didn’t even gain that much of it back.

No. I believe in some regularity for my body and that what I put in it is not so filthy that I need an un natural purge. That said, during the day I drink water cup after cup between meals to help digestion, keep me from hitting the sweets in the snack machine, keep hydrated, help keep my sweat and fluids less stinky since I do drink espresso every morning and a cocktail almost nightly.

It’s been said that going without food for an extended period changes how a person looks at food. It sounds like that’s the big value of the program.

If you do it correctly and prepare for it I think it’s fine. I’ve never been able to last longer than a day. I have no self control and I love food. But friends that I have done it with have lasted longer and had good results. I have, however, heard that with this cleanse and with some others you feel really crappy for a day or so and your breath smells and you’re gassy and everything. But thats just all the bad stuff leaving your body, then it gets better and easier. I dunno, it’s a little hard for me, but the lemonaid is good IMO :)

No bad stuff leaves your body other than shit, which would have left anyway.

So hopped up lemonade turns into sludge, schematics, fuckin schematics. Fasting is thought to be a healthy practice by many cultures, for spiritual and physical benefits. People have a problem with it because they don’t want to give up there combo burritos, or double-double’s animal style’s with extra pickles, for a week or two. So is it all bull, I mean, there really isn’t built up “whatever” in my digestive track, and toxins from a sometimes toxic world? There were good results. How come when people get colonics they feel a dramatic increase in energy, that stuff that comes out in a colonic has been there for a long time.

I have done the master cleanse a lot of times and always feel better for it. If you get sick or headachy that is because your body is getting rid of the toxins that have accumulated in your body. They enter your bloodstream to leave, the more toxic you are the worse you will feel. Keep drinking plenty of fluids -the lemonade and water to help flush the stuff out faster.

For the naysayers, if your body cleanse itself then why do people have cancer, fibromyalgia and other diseases. Its because our cells aren’t clean and aren’t healthy so that’s where cleansing and supplements step in.

I have done a lot of learning about the Master Cleanse—- and it does taste good-even my kids like my “lemonade”.

I find that it helps to learn something before judging it. Take a peak at Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanser book or the master cleanse instructions in the ebook at www.natural-cure-alternatives.com/master-cleanse-instructions.html to learn more. These are both great guides to doing the master cleanse program and doing it right. I like to have both of them around to keep me motivated so I can last longer than a day.

@MsHomeRemedy That is a load of misinformed crap that can cause actual damage to other human beings. You should restrict your folk beliefs to a site that doesn’t care about empirical evidence.

@dpworkin- you are right there is a load of misinformed stuff out there. The FDA and pharmacuetical companies don’t want you to know about it.

Did you know that anything prescribed as a medication has to have a lethal dose to get FDA approval? Talk about harmful to humans. The side effects from medications can be worse than the health issues themselves.

I am so glad that the whole food supplements and such don’t have FDA approval. It gives me peace of mind to know that these things don’t have a lethal dose. It is so great to have natural solutions.

@MsHomeRemedy water has a lethal dose. Stop drinking water.
