What could be the cause of an itchy vagina after intercourse and could you suggest solutions?

Asked by Fernspider (3597points) October 1st, 2009

I have been to embarrassed to ask this all day but finally decided I wanted opinions from others to establish if this is potentially normal.

After intercourse with my boyfriend, I find that I get itchy the next day or even day after.

We have both been tested and am certain it is not a result of STD’s.

I have been told that it is possible that I may be allergic to his, ahem, ‘liquids’ but don’t know how accurate this is.

I wash afterwards, wear cotton underwear and am quite certain it isn’t thrush.

Do other females find that this is a reoccurring issue and quite normal or could I be allergic to him? Are there other possibilities which escape me?

I have asked my doctor and she has completed tests but has not provided me with an explanation.

PS: Vagisil is my saviour.

Are you lubricated enough before he’s in there? Both partners not lubricated enough can get abrasive and itchy. I was also going to ask if you’re using condoms at all, as some women are allergic to latex, and that can get itchy as well.

Some women report discomfort after intercourse that stems from a urinary tract infection exacerbated by the friction and the seminal fluids. It is suggested that you urinate immediately after intercourse, and drink acidic beverages such as OJ and.or cranberry juice. Of course this is not a diagnosis, just a memory that I associate with the symptoms you describe.

Poison Spewmac?

i’m so sorry. . .i have emotional problems

@PretentiousArtist – LOL – Ummmm, no!

No condoms… that’s why I thought that I was potentially allergic to the little gift he leaves behind. Again, I dont know how accurate that is though.

Plenty of lubrication too. It’s very frustrating and to be honest, offputting which is sad because intimacy is important to me in my relationship.

@pdworkin – interesting… I will try the juice idea. Can’t hurt right!? :)

dpworkin's avatar

I’ve seen it work.

Are you sure it couldn’t be some yeasties? Candida live naturally in the vagina and can be there without causing any problems, but all the bumpin’ around down there could cause them to flare up. Have you had your gynecologist test for it?

aprilsimnel's avatar

Huh. Yeasties. There ya’ go. Could be that. I don’t know what else it could be. :/

Blondesjon's avatar

Didn’t the Yeasties sing Lollipop?

eponymoushipster's avatar

make sure the condoms weren’t made of sandpaper.

dpworkin's avatar

My Boy Lollipop was by Little Millie Small. It’s a scientific fact.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@Blondesjon, no, they sang Sabotage!

Blondesjon's avatar

@aprilsimnel . . . i was sooo gonna go there at first.

A friend of mine had the same issue, stop shaving – whoever is doing it. The rough edges of hair growing back can be irritating. Fixes the issue in no time flat.

This is of course assuming it is not the… yeasties.
And you know, one of you shaves.

UTIs don’t typically itch… but they can be caused by the friction of sexual activity, especially if hands haven’t been washed before they wander. It is recommended to urinate soon after sexual activity to flush our any germs that may have worked their way into the urethra.

If you are using any substances or objects to enhance the sexual experience or prevent pregnancy, you might be reacting to those. I found that the itch I get from spermicides is a burning itch, as opposed to the deeper itch I get from yeast infections.

It is possible that your bf is reinfecting you with a yeast infection. If the itch seems minor and only lasts a short time, try adding yogurt or acidophilus supplement to your diet. Avoid using harsh soaps and fragrances in the area. (I recommend Summer’s Eve Feminine Wash for Sensitive Skin).

If symptoms persist or worsen, please consult your Gynecologist.

You wash afterwards? Do you put soap down there? That could be irritating you.
I assume since you say you wash, you are urinating after, which is important.

I don’t know. Yeast infections are pretty painful, are you having pain or just itchiness?

SeventhSense's avatar

Yes, absolutely. Loofah dildo should scratch that itch.

Blondesjon's avatar

@SeventhSense . . .I used to date a Finnish chick named Loofa Dildo.

chyna's avatar

You are dry. Your dr. can give you a prescription that will take care of that.

The question that comes to mind, what has be doing with himself? The thought of Candida is not inviting but nevertheless something to be concerned with. I apologize for have read not read the thread completely and I am sure your answer has been exposed.

SeventhSense's avatar

@Blondesjon
Loofa strap on..
@chyna
Hmmm..maybe it’s the boyfriend?

chyna's avatar

@SeventhSense Probably, it’s usually the man.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

Sounds like a yeast infection. Or you could be allergic
to his “liquid” as you put it. I would absolutely make a doctor appointment asap. None of us are qualified to diagnose you and the sooner you get treatment the sooner you can put your mind at ease. It’s never fun having to play guessing games when it comes to your health.

@chyna
Well if she’s not getting wet..

chyna's avatar

@SeventhSense…Then it is his fault…

SeventhSense's avatar

Or hers for choosing him..

chyna's avatar

Either way, guys fault.

I experienced this with an ex and it was only with him and it was only when he came inside of me so I always thought he must have had some toxic sperm. <———That was in no way a educated response. I apologize

sjmc1989's avatar

I would also like to add that it didn’t just irritate my “lady parts” but my thighs as well. I don’t know if this is what you have experienced as well.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

could be a few things. does he shave or trim? it could just be his 69 oclock shadow causes some friction, or if he’s real hairy it could be the same. He could have something. Or, if you use a condom you could be allergic to latex.

if he shaves ask him to let it grow out to be about half an inch long, it gets rid of the sharp hair ends but it’s short enough not to “get in the way”. it still could be an std, these things can pop up fast so even if it’s only been a month since one of you were tested you could have contracted something. if you’re allergic to latex try lambskin.

windex's avatar

I would have him checked for something called Spermoliceagitis

1 in 3 million adult males have it.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

To me it sounds like a yeast infection like @casheroo said or what @ABoyNamedBoobs03 said, but my money’s on cash. [teehee]

KatawaGrey's avatar

Oh thank god, I’m not alone! I sometimes itch afterwards as well. My boyfriend told me that sometimes women are slightly allergic to semen. I’m not entirely sure if this is correct, but it seems plausible.

Grisaille's avatar

Mayhaps the gentleman has a scratchy penis.

Or iron wool pubes forged by the very Hephaestus in the fires of Mount Olympus.

eponymoushipster's avatar

maybe he needs to wash his penis properly.

SeventhSense's avatar

@Grisaille
Yes we have heard the tale:
And yea the chosen one Brillonius shall slay many a maiden with his steel wool pubes, but it is written that there shall arise a raven haired damsel who shall have an amazing vulva forged by a Vulcan named Teflonus. And their love will be consummated and the land shall be pelted with the sleet of their love. And this shall be a sign that Spring will soon be nigh.
