Verification of external hard drive stops on $Bitmap. Ideas?

Asked by patg7590 (4608points) October 20th, 2009

Its a WD Passport 320 GB drive, 2.5” bus powered, I’m trying to verify and repair it using Disk Utility in OSX Leopard 10.5.8. The drive is just acting weird so I figure some maintenance should help it. The drive is NTFS format and the mac has NTFS for mac installed for NTFS read/writability.

The verification and repair stops on “Verifying $Bitmap”

any ideas?

that is incredibly unhelpful.
reformatting=last resort

ok the first part was a joke…..

and aside from locating its running system and trying to replace the file, reformatting seems like the easiest, if not only option….. Do the best you can to save whatever is on the drive and rewrite it.

@patg7590 eh, sorry. I haven’t had much luck with NTFS or FAT32 devices on my iMac. I’m tellin’ ya, Apple products feel alive. Moody as heck.
