Who are the girls begging for help near Hollywood & Cahuenga, in the alleys at night?

Asked by Kraigmo (9055points) October 23rd, 2009

This has happened 3 times now, in the general area of Hollywood Blvd and Cahuenga.

I am walking along the sidewalk, and a white girl, around aged 20 to 25, (different ones, each time), dressed in expensive nightclub (or hooker?) clothes, comes up to me and begs for a cellphone. I say “come”, but they refuse to leave the alley. I won’t go in the alley, hell no. So i abandon them. They’re gone later.

Are these hookers trying to escape their pimps?
Are they scam artists leading me to thugs who will mug me?
Are they girlfriends of over-possessive producer types?
What are they?

Just a guess, but it sounds like a scam to me, and a possibly dangerous one. Too bad LA doesn’t have a real police department.

D. All Of The Above

if they are different girls each time, it could be a different scam/lure/hook each time, too

I just gotta stand up for the LAPD (and i’m not one to naturally want to support police). If what we read in the news was the definition of the LAPD, i’d hate them, too. But they have a huge job on their hands, they’re fighting some real dangerous evil, or whatever word you wanna use to describe it.

Scam. What white girls in trouble needs to beg for a cellphone from a stranger?

Very strange. I live right around there and walk past those clubs all the time, and never once have I had anyone ask to borrow my cell.

I used to live in the Ramparts District, @Kraigmo, and there is not much you can teach me about the LAPD.

Don’t fall for it. It’s mostly likely a trap of some sort.

Offer to call the police for them. Either they’ll accept, and you dial 9–1-1 for them and they are probably actually in trouble, or they’ll freak out because they really want to mug you/steal your cellphone/whatever. In the second scenario, you just keep walking, having determined you are unable to help them.

We should be very respectful of the police; the LAPD in particular. They are our finest, and their job is to protect and serve.

We should always be respectful, kind and courteous to them; especially when being pulled over for running a light, doing 75 in a 30… in a slightly intoxicated state, and in a foul, racist anti-semitic mood – if the cop’s name is Goldstein.

Should, however, the cop’s name be O’Malley; then go ahead and continue the joke about the jews and money; It’s funny – and it’ll crack ‘em up.~

I would say the second one. Sounds like the want to get you into the alley to rob you. Or they are just hookers with a new strategy.

Probably a scam. Be wary. D:

I don’t respect anyone willing to strap on a gun and a badge and boss people around. They’re public servants, not authorities. There are some good cops, but not enough to save the massive shit stain on their name. I’ve been pestered and harassed by police when doing nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly nothing illegal far too many times to try and count.

A world without cops means a world without Black gangs, White gangs, Mexican gangs, and Asian gangs. And a world without thieves. And a world without Aryan sociopathic nationalists. And a world without murderers, rapists, and con artists. And a world without morons who get angry while they are drunk because they’re too stupid to realize they can’t handle their liquor.

So when calling out cops on their scummery, be sure to also call out the above-named groups, too. We need to be contextually accurate if we are to alleviate the problems caused by all these groups, which create the justification for the existence of cops.

Bottom line is, all predators are scum. Whether they are breaking, obeying, enforcing, or legislating law. And whether or not they had a bad childhood.

@Anon_Jihad—Maybe, just thinking out loud here, it’s cuz when they pull you over and ask your name you say JIHAD!
