Is my cat sick? She howls if I even touch her.

Asked by troubleinharlem (7991points) October 24th, 2009 from iPhone

She likes being held… What’s wrong? I mean, when I hold her or shift slightly when she’s on my bed, she freaks. After I stop, she’s never better. Help?

Take her to an emergency vet as soon as possible.
She might have broken something or have some intestinal issues going on.
Some cats just get bitchy [to say the least] and don’t like being held even if they are big cuddlers.
But to be on the safe side, get her checked out asap.

You mean “like,“I presume. If she is in pain, she may be sensitive to touch. I would see the vet asap. If you had sprained a wrist, you wouldn’t want anyone to caress or even touch it. Abberant behavior in any animal is cause for worry.

Ignore the comment above mine. It is insensitive and unkind and unhelpful.

Don’t ask these things online. Take her to the vet; asap!!

@Hellfrost – it’s 11.54 at night. the vet is closed.

@gailcalled – thanks for the advice. (:

There are emergency vets who are open 24/7. Even if it’s not your vet, she still needs to be seen.

If this is something new, then I would agree, take the cat to a vet.

In my experience if you call your vet’s number even in the middle of the night they will either offer the number of an emergency vet or might give you a cell number to call so you can talk to the vet directly (the latter is what my vet does). The vet can then decide if the cat needs to see a vet ASAP, either your own vet or an emergency vet, or whether it can wait until morning or even Monday.

212–767-0099. 5th Ave and 15th St, I believe. They’re far from Harlem but they’re supposedly the most reputible emergency vets in Manhattan. if you live in Virginia as your profile seems to indicate, just try the phone book. There’ll probably be something. Good luck to you and your kitty.
