Why do I lose my hearing?

Asked by sjmc1989 (5499points) November 4th, 2009

Ok I don’t know if I am just a freak of nature or if this happens to everybody but a lot of times after I have sex usually if it is really good my hearing will go out not completely but it sounds like I’m in a bubble and I can’t hear well. This also happen sometimes after I smoke a cigarette. Does anyone here experience something similar too this and why the hell does it happen? Or is it just me??

it happens to me too its your inner ear, something about holding your breath and same when you smoke a cigarette, your not holding your breath but your breathing differently- it really gets bad when you fly. I don’t think anything can be done about it I’ve been to the dr. about it!

Smoke a cigarette after sex, like everyone else; this cancels it out and your hearing will be fine.

I often lose my hearing ten minutes into an argument with the opposite sex.
It’s a kind of meditation.

@SeventhSense: LOL! We’re nit talking about Selective Hearing!

Hi, I’m an Audiologist.

What @trailsillustrated is referring to is a pressure change in the middle ear that most people experience when flying. But other things that change the pressure in your head can also cause it to occur. Do you feel pressure and do your ears seem to pop when they return to normal?

Another possibility is related to blood pressure changes. Do you also feel lightheaded?

Are there any other associated symptoms, and do you experience anything similar at any other times?

@hearkat Yes I do feel lightheaded when this happens as well. In never thought about BP. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I have a really low blood pressure and I can’t think of another time that it happens. I used to and still do blackout sometimes and it feels a lot like that but not the actually passing out part though.

@sjmc1989: Sounds like the culprit. You may want to discuss it with your physician, because passing out generally isn’t good. Perhaps there is an exercise regimen that could help improve your cardiovascular performance and endurance.

@hearkat I never pass out from sex or smoking a cigarette and the reason I used to pass out was because I would go without eating and my blood sugar would drop. I’m not saying that I feel like I am going to pass out just how I hear is similar to when I used to be on the verge of blacking out. I’ve I always had low BP my Dr. said it was because I’m young and because of my weight. I have pretty good cardiovascular endurance so I don’t think that is it.
