Does anyone own a Shake 'n Go Car Racing Set? and would you recommend them?

Asked by nebule (16452points) November 23rd, 2009

My 3 year old is really into playing Mario Kart on Wii and loves cars. In order to entice him away from my Dad’s Wii and computers in general…I’m thinking of buying him a Scaletrix kind of thing for Christmas but he’s never played with one before and as he’s only three I’m looking for something that will engage him.

I wondered if anyone could give me a review of one of these or something similar…

Do you have one or something similar?
What would you recommend?
Or can you point me in the direction of a good toy review site?

I don’t know anyone that has one either so I couldn’t let him try one out first…:-/

I randomly got one for christmas, even though I’m a teen, but even for me they are a bit enticing to flip on for 15 seconds. You have to give it at least some respect for that.

they are very fun, even without the tracks.. i used to nanny for 3 boys(ages 2, 4 and 7) and they all loved to just put them everywhere and watch them go! But the idea of having tracks for the cars to be on would of course, probably be even better since he could build whatever raceway he wants…i think its a great idea! :)

lol @lloydbird I used to love that advert and used to dance around the room to it when I was little! lol

@mclaugh do you literally “shake” the cars and they fire off? How does that work exactly?? Do they run out of…buzz…energy at all? forgive my ignorance, God was having a laugh the day he decided to give me a boy! lol

@lynneblundell yes, you just shake them! they run on static energy, so i don’t think they have any batteries, but i might be wrong about that. i totally get you on the “ignorance” thing, i didn’t know much about transformers, hot wheels or playmobils before i nannied for those 3 little boys.

Try a cardboard box.

No matter how elaborate the toys are, my kids eventually get bored with them. Sometimes, kids like to play with the box and wrapping paper – tubes more than with thier gifts.

However, you can’t go wrong with cars (of any kind) for a three-year-old boy…trust me, I have six.

Read your question, again.
He will always be interrested in computers (it is addicting), but you can set some boundaries for him.
Start now, while he is young.
Establish a rule of how long he can spend on the pc or game system.
When he gets older, it won’t be so hard to get him away from it…he will be conditioned to the time-rule.

@valdasta I do set boundaries for him, it doesn’t stop him wanting to play them though :-)

@lynneblundell In reference to the pc, gaming, and internet, someone said something to me, once: “Why don’t you schedule your stupidity?” Ouche!

I try to set limits for myself and it doesn’t always go the way it should. : (
