Has anyone here ever played arimaa? If so how would you compare it to other abstract games?

Arimaa is a two person abstract strategy game that is played on an eight by eight board.

It uses the same pieces as chess: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arimaa

I’ve never played it, but it is interesting to people who program AI.
