He’s going to nail it, just like he did with Tony Stark.

I am so glad that RDJ is finally coming into his own. The promos for Sherlock Holmes look fascinating…can’t wait ‘til I get a chance to see it.

Just as long as he doesn’t get too much into character and start doing cocaine again, I guess it’s ok . He’s a great actor.

I love the idea. He all sorts of pretty and I think that he’s perfect for the roll. He’s one of my favorite actors.

Not really. I think he can make it work.

I don’t really have any way I think of Sherlock Holmes, so he isn’t perverting any deep mental image of mine.

ragingloli's avatar

Meh. They should have made a Sherlock Holmes Anime instead.

@erichw1504 : Iron Man? What about his performance in Tropic Thunder? That performance totally caught me off guard.

ragingloli's avatar

also why the hell did i think of a coloured person when i heard the name “Robert Downey Jr”?

jonsblond's avatar

I can’t wait to see it. I’ve been a huge fan of his since he was in Less Than Zero. Great actor. imo

erichw1504's avatar

@SABOTEUR Oh yes! Another great performance.

@ragingloli: Coloured person? What era did you time travel from?

Notrom's avatar

@SABOTEUR Tropic Thunder is one of my all time faves’ especially Downey’s character.

I accept that he is in a movie called Sherlock Holmes. I accept that he is playing a character named Sherlock Holmes. I imagine it will be an entertaining movie, and I admire his body of work. Having said that, I’ve read the books, seen numerous adaptations ( I even saw a stage production where Moriarty was a woman) but from what I have seen in commercials and on the web, that
ain’t Sherlock Holmes…

I think he’ll do a fine job as he is a good actor.will I be seeing this movie?Oh,hell no

syz's avatar

@Rude_Bear I disagree, I think RDJ is uniquely qualified to play a heroin addict…

ragingloli's avatar

I want to see Brent Spiner as Sherlock Holmes. Preferrably in his Data makeup and demeanour.

I think he’ll do great. I will probably see it on video.

From the promo, it looks like they’re playing it campy. I’m a lover of all things Holmes, and a great fan of Downey (the best actor of his generation imo), so I’m really looking forward to it. I think Jude Law was a good choice for Watson, too.

lonelydragon's avatar

When I first heard about the movie, he wasn’t the first person that came to mind as a good actor for that particular role. But I’m still going to watch the movie and give him a chance to impress or not impress me. I do think Jude Law will make a good Watson, so the casting director got at least half of the equation right.

A junkie playing a addict – not a stretch for him

supercricketman's avatar

sorry, bad casting.
sherlock holmes = 6’ 4” thin and hawk nosed
Robert Downey jr = 5’ 9” not so thin or hawkish
i think he could ACT the hell out of it but the appearance doesn’t fit

drdoombot's avatar

I don’t think he looks the part at all, but he’s such a phenomenal actor that he’ll make it work.

loveurmindnsoul's avatar

I think he fits it, but I am such a huge Sherlock Holmes Fan. The movie seems to be more action-y than about cleverness or cat & mouse like in the books. The scene where he is in a fight pit does not seem Sherlock Holmes-y at all.

Rufus_T_Firefly's avatar

I used to dislike RDJ, but his last few roles have changed my mind. I really liked him in Iron Man and from what I’ve seen of the new Sherlock Holmes movie, it should be a a lot of fun.
