Are Kino-Flo Tungsten Balanced lights truly tungsten balanced?

Asked by chuboy (86points) January 5th, 2010 from IM

Are kino-flo tungsten-balanced bulbs similar in color temperature to say a Arri 650W Tungsten light? Meaning could I use both lights together without having to gel correct the kino? I plan to use both in a makeshift garage video studio.

Wow, I will be so surprised if you get an expert answer here. I would guess so, but I’m not a film guy so I’ve never used them. Don’t they have published color temperatures for their products on their website?

You will be ok. As long as you white balance.

Well, they claim 3200, which is right, but here’s the spectrum if you feel like getting really picky, you could compare it to the tungsten spectrum if you could find that.

Well there you go, an expert. Knock me over with a feather.
