Can a teenager sign up for a PayPal account?

Asked by ilovethatboomboompow (7points) January 16th, 2010

I’m 14 years old and I have a bank account. Am I allowed to sign up for a PayPal account or do I need to be older?

I want to do some eBay shopping!

You might not be able to, because PayPal would probably resist issuing one to someone too young to legally enter into a binding contract without parental or guardian support.

I am 16, I have had one before I was your age. The trick is to use your parents information, with their consent of course. I will probably get my own when I am old enough.

Set up a Student Account with your parents. It will allow them to monitor your activity and not get you in trouble for fraudulently using your parent’s information.

I would just fake my age.

Paypal requires you to have a checking account, so they withdraw money from it, if your paypal account goes overdrawn. unless you have a legitimate checking account, i would say that paypal will not let you have your own account. also, giving false information over the Federal airways is a federal offense.

PayPal is pushing adult PayPal users to set up the aforementioned student accounts. Talk to your parents and see if they are willing to do that for you. I did it for my daughter because she uses PayPal to buy music for her iPod, but she talks to me about any larger item she might want to buy.
