Why do I keep seeing "Removed by Fluther moderators" as a reply to my questions?

Asked by raven2783 (119points) February 1st, 2010

Have I missed some rule outlines somewhere? I personally have not had my comments removed, but frequently this message occurs in replacement of other fluther member’s responses to my questions. I am wondering what type of responses are being removed by the fluther moderators. I am also wondering if any of you think it may be more interesting to leave these comments rather then have the moderators erase them so I never know what certain members are saying? I really wish i had the chance to read what the moderators are covering up. What if instead of being left in the dark, the moderators in erasing a response to the questioner, send the erased response to the person asking the question even though they are going to erase it?

The most often reason is if someone posts a joke before a real response. Other reasons are personal attacks or racists remarks.

Check the link to Terms & Conditions. That might explain why.

You are out of luck if you do not get to it before it is moderated. Usually it would have been flagged by a user or users as requiring moderation.

I think sending those comments to the questioner is a good idea. Mods?

@jbfletcherfan Of course, sometimes it’s the questioner who flagged it in the first place, and even if it wasn’t, if a flagging and removal by moderators can prevent someone from seeing a completely unhelpful, off topic, offensive, and personally insulting comment – well, I don’t need to have those sent to me, thanks.

In addition to the reasons above, spamming is often the case. Especially if the comment is from a newer member. Trolling- posting off- topic nonsense is another reason quips are removed.

In regards to sending the asking party removed quips- if they held value for the question they would not be removed. Thus taking the time to send them would be a waste of already limited moderator resources. :)

Was my “Removed by Fluther moderators” quip actually removed by Fluther moderators? Now that’s funny.

@Snarp
Yeah, they always do that for some reason.

Hint:If you really want to see them, it’s a good idea to stick around and follow your question as the posts come up. That way, you will often catch them before they are modded off.
