Social Question

What do you think woULD HAPP (woah, sorry about the 'caps lock') if we couldn't delete anything we typed?

Asked by bezdomnaya (1435points) February 5th, 2010

You see what I did there?

In the technological age, it seems as if a lot of communication is self-censored (e.g. a person can edit and re-edit an e-mail before sending, texts allow people to have emotional conversations with the ability to process the other person’s last comment before responding). It’s not to say that all electronic communication is metered, but there seems to be more ability in that respect.

Anyways, what if this were not the case? What if people couldn’t edit and rethink what they sent via electronic communication anymore?

Social repercussions, hilarious anecdotes, and world-ending scenarios are all welcome.

I don’t think anything drastic would happen. Forums and articles alike would be full of typos and anything typed without the utmost care would most likely be harder to peruse. Good question.

I would appear much more like a foreigner without the ability to fix my broken English.

@NaturalMineralWater I would have never guessed.

@bezdomnaya what do you think?

Without re-writes, we might all have to face truthfullness with a few typoooo’s…oop’s

People would take more time and care to make sure they typed what they meant and meant what they typed.

And the world would be full of angry, drunken, breakup emails and subsequent morning after apologies.

I remember what happened when we couldn’t delete anything we typed. it was called typewriters, and you just did it over and over again until you got it right.

Typewriters and white-out. White-out was magic to me!!

We would change the stuff we didn’t want to say to an small, unreadable font.

Well I’d just deal with it you foolish person, I hate you this is a stupid question and you I didn’t say any of that of course I didn’t I merely ment I mean “meant” not “ment” graaaaaaah.

In short, I wouldn’t be able to stop myself from making social blunders; I have to edit and re-edit everything I type to avoid offending someone. Take from that what you will.
