Need suggestions for 80's icon fancy dress costumes?

Asked by RareDenver (13173points) February 16th, 2010

My friend has his 30th coming up this summer and the theme is 80’s icons, can you help a fellow Jelly out with any ideas? Need suggestions for both myself and my wife.

You should go as Billy Idol, and your wife could be Molly Ringwald.

I second Billy Idol.

@gemiwing Me too! I’m thinking if I have any excuse to throw a party just so I can find a dress like that.

You could dress up like 80s Boy George. Why is it illegal for girls

Black Michael Jackson à la Thriller?

@Sarcasm Haven’t heard from that person (any one of her 15 or so personaltites) in quite some time. Did our troll give up?

I’ve done Adam Ant before but I like the Billy Idol idea, or maybe Bowie?

jfos's avatar

You should dress up as Jemaine (from Flight of the Conchords) dressed up as Bowie.

I was all excited when I saw this and was about to post Billy Idol when I saw @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities beat me to it. I will cut you…

Another option is Jeff Spicoli from “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”.

Classic.

YES. I was going to say Labyrinth Bowie. Your wife could be Sarah from the dream sequence. That was a fancy dress.

Axyl Rose and Madonna?

You could do Westley and Buttercup from The Princess Bride.

oops, they are characters. Does that not count?

Parachute pants, tight glittery vests and puffy hair!

Sorry…all I know about the eighties is what I see in old Halloween movies.

Nothing screams 80’s quite like Hall and Oates.

Or if you can find a white sport jacket and a pastel t shirt, you’ve got the Miami Vice look down.

Or if you want to be super 80s chic, google “Adam Ant”.
