Does airport express work well to extend range of a wireless network?

i have an airport extreme and the signal gets weak or non existent in parts of the house. i’ve tried range extenders and they’ve never worked. now looking to try an airport express.

I use an airport extreme base station with several expresses to provide good, fast and very secure access to a mixed PC/Apple/Unix/Linux network. It works extremely well.
