What is the alternative to clipboard manager while waiting to download it? See detail?

Asked by flo (13313points) April 20th, 2010

I want a way of cutting and pasting different paragraphs, and sometimes different paragraphs from different sites. Is there another way of doing that other than using the clipboard manager, while waiting for it to be downloaded, or let’s say if there is a glitch in the downloading, or someone doesn’t want it to be downloaded etc. Copying once and then pasting once, no going back and forth one paragraph at a time.

notepad, just keep opening notepads or paste each para in the same one and when you have used the text where you want it dump the notepad or save it—like instant lecture notes

@anartist thank you so much.

@anartist I just want to add, if I just want to highlight & copy the different paragraphs, once, and then go to the notepad once, to paste it. I am looking to avoid having to go back and forth. Thank you.

By the way I usually open a “compose email”, and copy and paste into the body of it.

I use the notepad when i am researching a subject—i grab as much relevant info as possible from as many reliable places as possible and dump it all on the one page, then distill the facts i want to use and do a rewrite so it is original material at the bottom of the same page with all my info grabs. So usually I stay with one page—but sometimes i stick in stuff relevant to other things if i see them in passing and have to move them somewhere else when I get around to it. If I am going to be quoting a source I save the link so I can link back on the same notepad. It is really easy. And txt files don’t take up any space.

@anartist the question was away for a while for editing.
So the key is to avoid copy, paste, copy, paste, copy paste, ...
I got a friend to help me, to edit the question, here it is better put:

“Is there any way, without using a clipboard manager, to cut and copy multiple items/paragraphs and then pasting all of them at one time instead of pasting after each cut-copy ?”

anartist's avatar

not really——whatever way you choose each action holds an active bit of information and wipes out the previous one—if there is a cumulative “copy” function anywhere I have never heard of it. sorry.

@anartist a system does exist, “Clipboard Manager” (I decided not to capitalize the C and the M before) It needs downloading though, and downloading is not allowed where I am using the computer. So I am guessing/hoping there is an alternate way of doing it.

Here is part of what refers to it.
“there is a ‘clipboard manager’ that can be downloaded (actually several different ones). It keeps a history of all of your highlights, so you can use it to copy and paste items you have highlighted in the past. One keeps 25(?) at a time and another allows you to delete unwanted items. A ‘clipboard manager’ would make ‘highlight, copy and paste’ not so time consuming.”
, I just need an alternate way of doing it.

well, I’ll be damned. thank you —must be weird getting thanked on your own question.

@anartist you are very welcome. What other sites can I put this question on though, since I still don’t have an answer. I mean a site with more serious technical Q&A’s, whether it is just computer related or not.

@anartist thank you very much. If you ever come accross the answer please let me know.

@flo I have now read all the comments in both threads and I still don’t understand what else you need from me that other people haven’t already covered completely. I have never used any of the products that @anartist listed above so I cannot possibly make any further suggestions about them. I don’t know of any further solutions that I haven’t mentioned already and I’m totally at a dead end on this now.

@downtide Sorry I didn’t mean to bother you. I was looking for someone for whom it is a piece of cake to get answer from all these sources. I don’t. I was hoping it would be interesting enough for you. Sorry again. Please don’t feel obligated to respond to this.

@downtide I would like to edit: Please read “It isn’t for me” instead of “I don’t”.

download it at home and bring it in and install it—what’s the problem with that?

I do wonder what dpworkin said . . .

@anartist thank you again for providing those links. But the key is without downloading anything, how to do it. Maybe it is not possible. But why it can’t be dowloaded, installed is another story, right?
