If you are in certain adult oriented fields don't NSFW not apply?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) April 28th, 2010

Do NSFW apply if you work in say a adult fetish shop, Adult DVD store, the porn industry, B&D or S&M shop, or a store which sells adults toys and lotions etc? One would think in those fields sex is the reason for the business so why would someone get offended over talk about self-pleasuring, 3somes, fetishes, role play or what you and the SO did last night or earlier?

I’m self-employed, so it doesn’t matter to me. The NSFW prefix is intended to warn those employed in the ordinary “vanilla” world. I respect the intention of this.

I would think some might actually encourage it. After all, isn’t that, in it’s own way, a bit like industry news/research.

I’ve always taken it as a heads up that there’s info’ share you might not want to be overseen by people you work with, regardless of what type of job you do. If I worked in a porn shop as a clerk then I still wouldn’t want the people I work with knowing about personal things I contribute to fluther.

No I don’t think it applies.

Working in a sex shop is an NSFW category situation.

As far as I know, NSFW only pertains to people at work looking at shit they’re not supposed to. As known as “forward this to your home email”.

@Neizvestnaya But if you were working in a sex shop and some couple comes in asking your coworker about what they could buy to solve an intimacy problems and was discribing it in detail within ear shot of you. Can you really say “Ewww TMI” when that is in part what the store is for, even if you yourself don’t share those types of detail?

I think people who choose to work in those types of places should be very open to sexual conversation. I’m sure they get a lot of questions about toys and videos and even tips and suggestions for play time. In my opinion, the people who work behind the counters at places like Condoms Galore should be sexual health experts… and even have a degree.

What I say or do during work that relates to work is fine. Opening up something on the computer that may reveal personal info’ about my life, my personal intimate opinions or those of other people I may want to protect or keep anonymous, that’s what I’m talking about. My co workers and customers can have all of me that pertains to work but there are some things not for them.

@Neizvestnaya I get you, however if you are on the computer at work doing other than work stuff even if not revealing might get frowned on. ;-)
