How does it feel to fall in love all at once?

Asked by beachwriter (361points) May 7th, 2010

Just curious to know how you’ve experienced it. Not necessarily love at first sight, but how does that first realization feel mentally, physically, emotionally?

It is a wonderful feeling (thus, why it celebrated in story and song and chased by all). You feel fluttery and fizzing like you’re filled with champagne bubbles. The world takes on a special kind of glow. Everything and everyone seem wonderful.

I remember being so nervous all the time, shaky, when approaching my hearts desire. Also so devoted to that person that you see no flaws, haha. I also remember that it is not something you realize is happening right away. You kinda have to think “wow this must be love”. I tell you it is amazing.

But even more? amazing is the feeling of being in love with your child. I always though the term “in love” was reserved for romantic notions but after having my child I realize that is not the case. It is a feeling that rushes over you. It is entirely overwhelming and can quite easily bring you to tears.

To me its like a car crash… One minute you are just minding your own business, when suddenly this person comes into your life and everything that you know just changes instantly.

@RedPowerLady I remember reading a book about motherhood when my son was a baby in which one woman said her daughter was “the great romantic love” of her life. That statement stuck with me.

a happiness like nothing else can ever compare to. i remember the silly moment i realized that me and my current boyfriend were on the same page emotionally, even though he was six states away. i was on my way to the midnight shift at UPS and he sent me a text i still remember every word of. and even though it could have been interpreted many different ways i knew exactly what he meant. the happiness has not faded yet, especially since i moved here. and i dont see it fading. thats whats so wonderful. and that night at UPS i was the most pleasant package loader at 2 am you will ever see. I was literally sprinting and cartwheeling through my truck that night.

@janbb Oh yay! It’s hard to imagine that this feeling of awe over her will last that long! I mean of course it will but still it is hard to imagine she will ever be that big

Amazing. For me, it was a bit overwhelming. And it can just happen out of nowhere. It’s like a warm breeze flowing through your body.

Two times in my life I’ve fallen in love with complete trust and faith in my partner where it also felt reciprocal and it was the most incredible experience! I’ve spent years hoping to be loved like that again, nothing compares to feeling like the two of you are bouncing more and more positivity off one another, growing together, bringing out the best in each other and softening out each other’s rougher edges.

I’ll put it this way…if you could bottle just a tidbit of that feeling, it would be the most glorious thing on the planet.

@MissA And if you can have only the ups without any of the downs…....

Draconess25's avatar

@janbb Well, the downs give the ups meaning. You can’t have one without the other!

To me….alot of you all would disagree—- but i believe that it only happens once. No matter what you do, I think you will never feel for the other person the same way than the person you fell in love with. Further more,—here goes I dont think it really exists. I think that its just a chemical flow in the brain and thats it. The only true love is love for yourself and GOD
