What kind of BMX bike should I get?

Asked by Jeremycw1 (1370points) May 9th, 2010

So I’m just getting into BMX… like flatlands and skate park kinda bmx. No dirt jumping or off road stuff. I want to know, what kind of BMX bike should I get? I like doing the bowl and half pipe… and I just want to pick the best one for me.

Thanks for you help!!

I was always partial to PK Rippers and Redlines, but that was about a thousand years ago (well, 25ish). I have friends in the bike industry, some of them ride Hoffman’s.

Kink
Stolen
Dk
Fit
&
Eastern

are probably the top 5 good BMX bikes.

Back in my day it was Redlines and Mongoose haha now they sell them at Toys R Us

So is this a dirt bike because it has bigger tread in the front and only back brakes? I’m having a hard time distinguishing…. or is there even a difference?

Yes it is a dirt bike. Dirt bikes tend to run only a rear brake and have longer top tubes and wheelbases.

@earthduzt I’ll see your Kink, Fit and raise you Volume

Ask a 15 year old kid at the skate park. You want advice from people outside, not sitting in front of a computer looking out the window.

I’d pick up something used and ride it until it falls apart. By then I’d figure out what works and what looks good, but that’s just me.

@Jrome yeah that’s a good idea. That’s what i did with my longboard. I got a cheap one, and after riding it i knew what I really wanted. thanks
