OK, so what is the "doink, doink" sound in the Law and Order soundtrack?

Asked by Kayak8 (16457points) May 10th, 2010

I know that there was a time when the characters actually talked about the “doink doink” sound in promotion of the show. When the show first started I remember recognizing the sound immediately and I will be darned if I can place it now.

Here’s a link to the sound file (it’s in Flash) for anyone who wants to hear it. I think it’s from a synth, but it’s more than one sound.

@aprilsimnel Thanks for that! Didn’t know the very sound was available for review!

I came close to getting that sound once on a synthesizer…I probably couldn’t repeat it! It’s just one of those quirky things that stuck, Don’t you wish you’d come up with it?

I don’t know the device that makes it but I believe it’s supposed to be the sound of a gavel being sounded on the judges table.

I don’t know what the doink doink is but I love it. I’m kind of a Law & Order geek though. The doink doink makes me salivate like one of Pavlov’s dogs. :)

I think of it as chong chong.

@breedmitch I kind of agree with you on that, I only called it the doink doink because that’s what the characters called it in the set of ads where they used it . . .

I always figured that it was the Allright now we’re gettin fuckin serious allure since the sound always comes up when the events or scenes change.

Either that, or it’s some kinda subliminal message designed to make you want to spend all your money on FedEx services.
