What are you looking to go to Madagascar for? If it’s biodiversity, Costa Rica wwould be a great choice. And welcome to Fluther!

Either Shrek or Toy Story.

Seriously, what about Puerto Rico? And you wouldn’t need a passport if you’re from the US, which is nice. Same currency as well.

Or the US Virgin Islands

(It still depends on what you want to go to Madagascar for!)

Definitely look into Costa Rica then. They are one of the most biodiverse countries in the western hemisphere with a number of nature reserves. Great jungles, cloud forests, volcanoes, turtle preserves, birdlife, monkeys, etc. It is also a very friendly and lovely country to visit.

Costa Rica is a great suggestion. Also perhaps Belize, Galapagos, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and really throughout the U.S. we have great nature preserves / national parks / wide ranging biodiversity.
