Are Tinker Toys and logs still made? if so are the still made of real wood?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) June 18th, 2010

As a child, i was a Tinker Toy junkie. i had at least three sets and combined them all to make a bridge for my train set. do they still make Lincoln Logs? this was my second best toy, after Tinker Toys. i had other toys that i also loved, namely an Erector Set. since this was at least 50 years ago, do they still make any of these toys? also, what was your favorite toy as a child and is it still out there?

It’s hard to do but you can still get real wood Lincoln Logs. Tinker Toys are plastic now and the suck. My favorite toy was a baton, you can still get them.

My favorite toy (pasttime) was a real wooden two-person rowboat with a custom wood slab across the front end to use as a mini diving platform.

We lived right on Great South Bay (L. I. ) so that, my crabbing net for the docks and crab traps for the bottom with open water were all I needed for a full day and provided many happy hours.

This was in the days before rampant pollution when crabs were actually edible.

In the colder months I always had my nose in several books at a time.

I just naturally loved reading for pleasure, little realizing how much that would stand me in good stead when it came time for College Boards exams.

Those were my “toys” which occupied most of my time. Not exactly too typical, but i guess I was kind of an odd duck :)

I wonder if they even make real wooden rowboats anymore with all the aluminum and fiberglass stuff so predominant. But even tho it was small, that sucker was HEAVY (and real solid and sturdy). Never had to worry about capsizing :)

My favorite was probably my B B gun…“you’re gonna shoot your eye out with that thing”!

I watch that movie at least once a year. It is such a classic. Absolutely love every part of it.

Like the others said, both are still available. My son has both (and they are both made out of wood) and really enjoys building things with them (though legos are starting to take over for him now that he’s getting a bit older).

My favorite toys when I was younger were my barbies. I had two different houses, the corvette, the jeep, tons of clothes, and all the furniture and accessories for in the houses. I gave all of it to my niece a few years ago.

I was so upset as a kid, to find out tinkertoys were plastic. Who had that stupid idea? I loved my wooden ones.

We have several sets of real wood Lincoln Logs (though the roofs, windows and doors are plastic).
