How do I search iBooks store for free books by category so it is NOT listed just by author?

Asked by Dog (25152points) June 22nd, 2010

I have been so excited about the release of iBooks for the iPhone and last night it became a reality.

So in the iBooks store I wanted to look through all free titles by category. Unfortunately they only want to list by author and I rarely note an author when selecting books.

Is there any way of searching a category and having it present like the Featured with an option to filter free ones?

I do not have a specific title in mind and just want to browse.

As always thanks for any advice.

I was struggling with iBooks last night also. Being excited to finally have it on my iPhone I was eager to pick up a new book to read. I must say that even though it’s only been out a day I’m not overly thrilled with it. It might be because I’m in Canada, but the book selection is boring and the lack of navigational resources is a pain. I have been trying to figure out how to better search the iBooks store but have, so far, come up empty handed. I’m going to follow this question because I’m as curious as you are :) GQ!

iBooks > “Store” button at top right > “Browse” button at center bottom > “Categories” button at upper left to choose a genre > “Top Free” button at upper right.

But even then, that’s just the listing of most popular free books’ authors shown in alphabetical order (not popularity!) for that category—PRETTY MUCH LIKE YOU SAID :-\.

It is weird. And a process I expect to be refined in the future.

Oh yah, there’s also the “Charts” button (next to “Browse”) where you can scroll down to the “Top Free” book titles sorted by popularity.

I found this site is offering many of the free titles. I am going to see if I can use their main site to find books and then find them by title in the iBooks store.
