How to deal with starting my periods when you don't want them?

Asked by nailpolishfanatic (6637points) July 18th, 2010

On Wednesday my team and other many teams are meeting in Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city for the Rey Cup soccer sort of camp. We will go wednesday and come back home on Sunday, I always start my periods on the 20–30 th dates of months, I am pretty sure I will start on at Rey Cup. I will be playing soccer the whole time so it kinda is annoying being on your periods then and stuff.
Please get to me, the past week I have been hoping to start earlier, but I guess it didn’t happen. How can I have more fun there?

Get used to it; they don’t happen for your convenience. They are part of your life.

birth control pills can delay your periods,you have to take continuously for about 20 days,when you want your periods come back, just stop taking them

@Thesexier I encourage you to resist taking pills to change things in your life which are natural and normal.

I am not a woman, so no expert at all, but i do watch television and thus commercials.
Isn’t it so that with today’s sanitary women wear you can swim, do horse jumping, etc.?
And soccer.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@jesienne , well I don’t take birth control pills.
@perspicacious , true, but it kinda is going to get in my way of having fun, there will be a swimming pool party!
@rebbel , lol, yeah tampons…

Take some Midol and a box of tampons and just deal with it. It’s something that you just have to live with as a woman. I was on my period on my wedding day and there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.

Discuss your concerns with your coach and your sports doctor. They can help you find the best solution for your own health. My sister in law told me they received some excellent tips and ideas for their athlete daughter.

@rebbel I love that answer. GA.

Resist pills and since everyone has different “problems ” with their period just deal with it and be prepared. I would talk with your coach and doctor for ideas but not take pills. I know it is a bummmer and no woman likes it but It is How it is!

@rebbel Sometimes I wonder if all those commercials just give women a sense of false hope! Lol.

knitfroggy's avatar

@MRSHINYSHOES No we could do all those things. Some of us are just too moody, crampy and bloated.

Like the others have said, you just have to get use to it and learn to deal with it. It’s going to be part of your life for a long time. Tampons work well for sports and swimming.

Good luck with the Rey Cup soccer camp. Period.

I’m sorry, its just life. I always say.. take a few ibuprofen and maybe a pepto bismol. Preparation is all you can do.

I know how you feel. My birthday always falls during that time of month for me. I hate it! Just try to enjoy your time and don’t let it cramp your style.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@Seaofclouds , yeah but I tried using a tampon once for swimming and it just got wet and thick-big the second I got in the water-it was painfu

anyway, i will just take my period stuff and some medicine and lot’s of panties:D then I am good to go:)

@MissA , thank you:)

Seaofclouds's avatar

@Thesexier Do you know what absorbency the tampon you tried before was? If you do, try using a tampon with lower absorbency. The tampons get bigger as the absorbency gets higher.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@Seaofclouds , I think it was normal, middle sized one like this, But at the beginning of my menstruation I use the mini ones, and a pad under because I always leek.

Honey have a word with your dr, to see if he/she can help. I don’t think anyone is appreciating here how bloody painful they can be too, the last thing I would have been doing at your age is sports, I was usually to be found curled up in bed with a hot water bottle and a couple of painkillers, my Gran would make me soup, and tell me she knew I didn’t realise it then but one day I’d understand its a wonderful thing to be a woman lol :-) I know it won’t help at all now, but I suffered tortures cramp wise when I was in my teens but they got easier the older I got.

Regarding tampons honey, go into the chemist and ask re sizes etc, also you can buy them in packs of assorted sizes designed to see you through your entire period now too, with instructions for which to wear on which days. We sell them at work. Just try to cope as best you can sweetheart, and don’t let it spoil your fun ok? take some pain meds with you for the cramps and wear about 50 towels (well maybe not 50 but I’m trying to make you smile here lol) so that you’re not self conscious and worrying about leaks and be glad you’ve been blessed by being chosen to be a woman, as my wee Gran said :-) sending you hugs honey xx

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@bunnygrl , aww that actually made my day! Thank you very much, so I will just take tampons, both mini and normal, and pads, so that I when the tampon leeks, the pad saves me:)
And some candy or money to buy candy , because I always crave candy when on periods…

again Thank you!

bunnygrl's avatar

@Thesexier LOL I forgot the most important bit!!! Chocolate!!! oh my goodness, if anyone were to get between me and my chocolate at that special time of the month…. well they would regret it and I would be very sorry too afterwards but a girl needs her comfort choc :-) yes, definitely lots and lots of comfort choc or candy, and the great thing is that the calories don’t even count because you’ll be playing soccer and running them all back off anyway lol

Have fun honey, and remember to let us know how your team did in the competition <throws millions of hugs for dear wee @Thesexier> xx

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@bunnygrl , yeah mhhhhhhmmmmm chocolate!!!!!:D
Thanks bunnygirlxD

I will let you knoe:)

bunnygrl's avatar

Cool!!! have fun honey <hugs> oh and a friend told me a while ago that if i were to store my chocolate somewhere high up like on a shelf or on top of the fridge that the height would scare the calories away lol. Now I’m not sure if that works, but its a nice idea and it made me laugh :-) enjoy the competition, what an amazing thing to be part of, it sounds like such a lot of fun.
<hugs> xx

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@bunnygrl , oh well:D

hahahah your friend is a genius.

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

oH, I know some people are maybe going to say ”who cares?” or something, but well just wanted to let you know that I just started my periods the same day as I am going to Rey Cup. So I will have them the whole trip…

meagan's avatar

@Thesexier Oh noooo. At least it isn’t going to sneak up on you.. lol :P

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

@meagan , lol yeah, that’s just annoying and creepy, sometimes you don’t notice it, and you just have people telling you you have something red on your back!:O
It has never happened to me but it’s pretty scary:/
