When you shop for clothes do you try it on or just grab your size and go?

Asked by Frenchfry (7591points) August 15th, 2010

I hate the dressing rooms. I think I have a thing about security watching me undress . So I grab and go. I also think more men just grab and go then women. I am probably one of the few women that does not use the dressing room to try it on first.

Grab and go. Then go back and change it.

Do you always get the proper size? That’s cool….

Frenchfry's avatar

Most of the time it fits well. One a few times I have had to return it.

I try it on.

Yeah right grab and go, I have never been able to do that. I just have to suck it up, and try it on.

I try the clothes on! I can do a grab and go with only certain Items, like the basics. Thats no big deal. When it comes to something other than a tank or a cute skirt, it’s best to try it on! Seriously, it saves more time than bringing the item of clothing back to the store.

I usually just grab my size and go. I can rarely be bothered to faff about with trying it on.

I have to order most of my clothing, most shops don’t carry my size. I enjoy shopping with my fiance and watching her try on everything in the shop, like a kid in a candy sore.

I will just take and go. Sometimes it does not fit perfectly, but I will wear it anyway.

For shirts I just grab and go but for pants I try them on.

I hate trying on clothes, but I never grab and go because these days, same-label stuff is manufactured in many different places. Two pair of same-sized jeans, for example, almost always fit differently on me.

I hardly ever try on shirts. Pants are a different story. Half the time, I can tell by looking at them if they’re going to fit. When I can’t tell, I’ll try them on. I always try on shoes. I try on dresses most of the time.

I hate taking stuff back, so I try it on.

I try everything on, well, just pants and shirts. I like to get it right the first time and I don’t like to waste gas going back to the store lol.

I’m not a fan of shopping, so it seems to work out better if I try it on at the store vs. having to go back to return it. Pretty much everything I own comes from 4 stores/chains because I know that their clothes will fit. It’s now to a point where I can order from a few of these stores on their website and have yet had to return any of them.

Shirts I can eyeball and tell if they’ll fit. Trousers, skirts and denim, I have to try it on. It’s the waist-to-hip measurements that get tricky.

If I’m buying a brand I’m familiar with, I can grab and go. If I’m trying a new brand, I have to try them on. I am very picky about the way my clothes fit me and I would be annoyed if I planned to wear something new only to find out it didn’t fit right at the last minute.

Every brand is a bit different, so I always try things on the first time. After I get a feel for a certain brand of clothes, I can easily go in and find the size I need without trying anything on.

I try it on. What looks great on the rack or on the manikin doesn’t look great on everyone. There’s no security cameras in dressing rooms, silly. :P (I’m sure that’s against the law, at least where I shop.)

I usually take two sizes of everything into the dressing room with me, in case the first one is too big, I can go down. :] I do try to make my time in the dressing room as short as possible, because I enjoy the picking out of clothes a lot more. :P

One good thing. In the old days, it was very hard to return stuff. Nowadays, with retailers desperate to keep customers, it’s a snap as long as you have the receipt and haven’t had the clothing washed or cleaned. And some take back stuff without a receipt and just give you store credit.

Grab and go. I hate changing rooms for reasons I’ve detailed elsewhere. On the other hand I have a pretty good idea of my size and it’s rare I have to take anything back.

Frenchfry's avatar

@downtide I can see that would be a set back.

It depends on if I’m really familiar with the store and the brand. A few of the brands at Target make up over half my wardrobe, so I know pretty well how they’ll fit and what size to get. The rest of the time, I make sure to try them on first. I’d rather grab and go, but I’m not as good about returning things as I’d like, so then I just loose out.

I try the clothes on. Like others mention, no two same sized garments seem to be sewn or hang the same. Also, most clothes I try on is given a size other than in inches. I’d love to be able to try skirts and slacks sized like men’s in waist sizes, same for blouses.

Another reason I try clothes on is because I’m built slim but long limbed even though I’m short and most of my items get altered before I wear them out. I can grab a size 0 thru 4 in Petites, 0–4 in misses and 0–5 in Jr’s and nothing will make much sense.

I buy most of my clothes online now so there’s no chance to try them on until they arrive. Usually they fit just fine because I look up the measurements on the website I order from, but sometimes I have to send them back.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I always try them on if I am at the store.I have bought some things online and know my size with the brand I like and so far so good :)
