How many digits of pi can you figure out?

Asked by chen_lao (29points) September 7th, 2010

Pi is a mathematical constant valued as the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space, barely 3.141593.
I can’t recollect how many figures there are.

I agree with @josie. As far as I remember, it doesn’t actually end or repeat.

@josie: @Seaofclouds: actually I feel infinite doesn’t say much about the problem. Tho in math we do have some abstractions like that.

Are you looking for an algorithm? Pi can be expressed as an infinite series, a sum of fractions with repetitive characteristics. From that, you can work out as many digits as you like. It is, however, an instance of a transcendental number. By definition, a transcendental number is one that can be expressed neither as a ratio of integers nor as an integer root of integers.

I have no clue how to calculate it, so I would have to say, only as many as I can remember. Which is 3.14, if I don’t look it up.
