Would you prefer a gas fire or a real wood fire if you had the option?

A warm fire and your fav. beverage with your s/o watching the snow fall can be very romantic, especially this time of year. Real wood fireplaces are messy and gas ones only require a flick of a switch. But if you had your choice and the resources (and a partner willing to have everything ready), which would you prefer?

I have a fireplace which I never use (inefficient) and a wood-burning stove that I do. I am the sole human here so, perforce, I get everything ready. Milo then enjoys his cocoa and marshmallows.
The ashes go on the peonies; all the black and white paper is used as kindling; I get some exercise. Everyone wins.
My husband makes a fire for me almost every morning. (wood burning) Saves money, and I really enjoy sitting by it.
Wood fire. I like hearing the crackle when the heat hits a pocket of moisture in the wood, and I like the smell of wood burning.
I really find nothing enjoyable about a gas fire. I prefer the smell of wood, especially cherry wood.
I love a wood fire. I think it is a very primitive human response.
Have a franklin Stove. When I make a fire in the evening and it dies down the gas furnace comes on. So I know I am heating my house. Love to sit by it (glass doors) and watch the flames.
Oops, just answered my own “Q”. Can we keep this between us?
I like a real fire, with real wood (Oak smells really good when it is burning).
Ah, yes, the sweet-smell of a wood burning fire, so romantic…

When your partner starts the fire but it rarely ‘catches’ because its hard to get started, even with sufficient kindling, because the chimney’s mostly on the outside of the house, when you’re constantly sweeping up the bark, when the ashes continually need to be emptied, when the air is so dry that…
Ha! You know, gas doesn’t sound so bad, after all! ... :)
Triss, don’t ask why I’m here at 4:30am. If it was anyone other than yourself giving me grief ‘bout my “Q”, I would be rude and claim sleep-deprivation. I just can’t bring myself to do that to you.
I hope all is well. I can’t believe this is the 22nd. Only because 1 of my gifts is a hand-crafted chess board, pieces and chest. It should be nice. Heck I’ve been working on it for over a year now, it should out-last me. I pulled the CBar trick again. I get the biggest kick now watching peoples’ faces when after I buy it, turn around and say Merry Christmas. Yes, little things amuse me.
