Where's somewhere interesting that you've signed/written your name?

Asked by ucme (50047points) January 16th, 2011

Okay define interesting right? By that I suppose I mean somewhere unusual or out of the ordinary. Or perhaps somewhere unexpected, worthy of credit. For instance, it may be the location that makes this signature memorable. Or what it was written on could be the determining factor. Maybe you wrote your name on an important document or high on a mountain in some exotic place. I hope my point has gotten across because i’m going to look pretty silly if it hasn’t!

On our honeymoon, my hubby wrote our names and the date on the inside of the drawer in the nightstand that was beside our bed. We’ve gone back several times, and it’s still there. =0)

Well, I didn’t write it, but my fiance did. In the snow. We were cross country skiing. No, he didn’t have a pencil or pen. I suspect this is not unusual for people who live where there is snow. You can draw pictures. Play tic tac toe if there are enough people.

When I was 21 I worked for a place that made wafers that are used in the International Space Station. I had to sign my name on a bunch forms after working on them.

I recently signed the visitor book at Carnforth Rail Station where the wonderful old British film “Brief Encounter” was filmed in ‘44. Director David Lean said that Carnforth was chosen because of the slopes from the subway onto the platforms, which allowed the actors to run up and down. He added that the lead actress, Celia Johnson, would have looked silly running up and down steps. Another book reports Lean as saying that Carnforth was chosen because “The war was still on and the railway people said ’ There may be an air raid at any moment and you’ll have time to put out the lights in that remote part up in the North. We’ll know when the planes are coming.’ We were a blaze of lights from filming.”

The Ministry of War Transport probably offered a number of possible stations, and Carnforth was chosen as the most suitable.

Visit it if you ever get the chance. It’s a lovely bit of history.

A grain of rice.

I saw a street vendor doing it, and I thought “surely I can too.”

So I wrote my name on a grain of rice with a needle and a magnifying glass. It’s not that hard then again, I have steady hands.

I was a founding member of the chapter of my sorority in college back in 1984, so my signature is on the Charter that hangs in the sorority house – dead center because of where it fell alphabetically. Kind of cool.

I signed my name and the years I lived on the inside wall of the closet of a house I grew up in before I moved far far away as a child. The house has since been torn down.

Many years ago I played in a band. At one concert venue, the Governor of our state was present with a friend, Calvin Hill, a former player for the Dallas Cowboys (father of Grant Hill the basketball player). Mr. Hill and his wife were very gracious (the man unfolded his long frame into the aisle to even be able to fit in the seat). After the concert, Mr. and Mrs. Hill bought one of our albums and asked us to autograph it. Many months later, I was talking to my cousins in Texas and told them I had met Calvin Hill. One cousin asked if I got his autograph. Without missing a beat I said, “No, but he got mine.” They looked at me like I was a total idiot!

In white paint, on the side of a small mountain near the Cambodian border in Vietnam. I doubt it’s still there, but you never know, that was a pretty isolated place. : )

in the “registry” (a small tin box) in top of Tower Peak at the far north end of Yosemite Nat’l Park. That was in 1969. there were notes from climbers from the 1930s in the box.

Alex built a bed for one of my lung cancer patients and when we carried it all the way to their home by hand, they made us sign the bed.

I was staying at a NYC hotel with a guy I was dating a few years ago and we found some wet cement outside and wrote our names in it. I can’t recall exactly where it is but it’s not far from Union Square.

I wrote my initials on the bunk bed at camp. That was an amazing year of camp and I met some pretty awesome people. I love @WillWorkForChocolate‘s answer.

@ChocolateReigns Awww. It was a great honeymoon! He also carved our names and the year into a giant rock on top of the “mini mountain” we hiked while we were there. It’s still there, but he “refreshes” it every year when we go back.

I’ve been thinking about this question for days, and I am very sorry to say that I don’t think I have ever signed or written my name anyplace interesting, other than in the guest books at some tourist places, and I just don’t think they count.

I was too well-behaved to sign my name in or on some of the interesting places I’ve seen. Now I feel kind of sorry that I couldn’t have overcome my schoolgirl inhibitions at least once.

I’m thinking about it, @noelleptc. At the moment there are no interesting places in my near future. But the next time I have an opportunity, I won’t pass it up! Being arrested for vandalism at my age, and especially while I’m still sporting cast and crutches, would probably be good for some entertainment in itself.

ChocolateReigns's avatar

@Jeruba Oh no! Why are you sporting cast and crutches?

This question has sparked some ideas. I’m going to go grab a pen and initial the inside of my desk drawer, and possibly some other out-of-the-way places that will give someone a chuckle when they find it.

just an idea but maybe we should al start drawing Fluther Jellies in random places??
