Which tastes less disgusting? A slab of grilled tuna or one of salmon?

Asked by Aster (20023points) July 16th, 2011

I get the feeling that if one just must eat meat these are the only two kinds that won’t bring on a rapid death from various diseases. So if you had to choose, which one could you force yourself to choke down with less gagging? And is there some sort of sauce you could put on the less disgusting choice?

Both are fine to eat raw, but I’m a fan of atlantic salmon my self.

EDIT: If you can afford it, sword fish tops all other fish by a mile.

Raw? I’d go with the tuna. Raw salmon is often infested with tapeworms, which is why even sushi chefs freeze it first. The same precautions are apparently not necessary for tuna. As for sauces, do wasabi and ginger count? They also help kill lingering microbes that would be undesirable in our intestines.

Both are great. You probably don’t like much seafood, so eat something else? I like to marinade mine in some asian spicy sauce, or lemon and pepper.

Grilled tuna nor grilled salmon are disgusting. Both are delicious and delicacies. If I sauced at all, it would be very lightly.

Perhaps a butter-scallion sauce.

Why make assumptions that somethingis “disgusting” just because you don’t like it?

She says “grilled” in the Q.
Why bother, @Aster ? If you don’t want to eat meat, don’t eat meat. There are plenty of non-meat items, including eggs and dairy items that will give you comparable protein.

Erm…l because all those meat eaters out there die a rapid death of various diseases?

I prefer tuna with a nice soy-ginger marinade, but I’d happily eat the salmon too.

I’m not much of a seafood lover, but I do like grilled salmon and tuna.
Maybe you should stick with veggies and nuts for your protein.

I like Salmon best, but, my favorite fishes are the white varieties, Perch, Whiting, Cod, Pollack.
I like mine simply prepared, a dash of butter and some seasonings and baked for a few minutes.

I don’t often have to say it, but this is really a stupid question. I don’t know anyone who has died “a rapid death from various diseases” from eating any kind of meat, so the premise of the question is just… whack.

Aside from that “a slab” of any kind of meat sounds less than appetizing. Since I don’t eat meat in “slabs,” but choose the cuts and preparations pretty carefully, I love all kinds of meat, including tuna and salmon, both raw (in the form of sashimi or rolled into sushi) and lightly to moderately grilled.

As for sauce, if you really detest the taste of the fish itself (or if it’s not as perfectly fresh as it ought to be), then soy sauce will cover up a lot of defect in that regard, and pickled ginger afterward is a nice palate-cleanser.

But really, an attitude adjustment is absolutely required, or there’s no point in even trying.

Grilled tuna with a Ginger sesame glaze. Mmmmm. Forget salmon.

I LOVE seafood. Just adore it. But I had a bite of salmon once—canned croquettes are fine, and hated it. I want to love salmon and grilled tuna; I really do. But true; I’m whacked. lol

Blackberry's avatar

@redfeather I have that in my refrigerator now lol.

I like salmon, but I looooove tuna. I do, however, prefer it to be simply very lightly seared rather than cooked though. And now I want a tuna steak with ginger soy sauce and a side of wasabi mashed potatoes.

Fresh Alaska salmon is by far the very best.

@JilltheTooth “Grilled” was added on edit. It wasn’t there when @poisonedantidote and I answered the question.

If we’re talking about grilled, the question is actually more difficult for me. I love both tuna and salmon when grilled. And don’t even get me started on BBQ salmon, which is amazing.

Thanks, @SavoirFaire , missed that. Sorry, @poisonedantidote .
