If you could erase all of the useless information in your brain and fill it with something else, what would you choose?

Asked by KateTheGreat (13640points) July 22nd, 2011

Personally, I’d love it.

I’d cram as many languages as I could and conquer multi-variable calculus. What about you?

I’d cram my brain full of engineering knowledge, languages, and motor vehicle repair skills.

I don’t think there’s any such thing as useless information.

I’d love to know about twelve more lifetimes’ worth of stuff, but not at the expense of anything that’s there now.

KateTheGreat's avatar

@Jeruba I think there is useless information. I know how many tiles are in the ceilings of each one of the classes that I’ve ever taken in college. Now that is useless.

Jeruba's avatar

I just think it is information that you haven’t found a use for yet.

I like the idea of learning all the languages that are currently in use throughout the world. Imagine being able to go anywhere on the planet (political issues aside) and not having any problems communicating.

Mathematics.

I’m good, a veritable cornucopia of mostly very useful knowledge.

My brain has an absorbtion rate of about 6 million sea sponges, and all of it can be summoned in a nano second. lol

I am sort of looking forward to becoming senile. haha

There is so much I’d like to be able to forget entirely and so much I’d like to know about even cursorily… Like adverbs. I’m listless with too much to list on both sides.

I’d pull an Odin for the Wisdom of Ages.

How to play the piano. Better French and all of Spanish.

Medical knowledge, law and philosophy.

I would settle for being able to recall everything that is in there now. There is stuff I know I put in there but I can’t find it!

Berserker's avatar

Hey I like whatever useless stuff I know. It’s what keeps me going. :)

I don’t know what the hell I’m ever gonna do with knowing that Pet Sematary actually had 16 different cats to play the part of one cat, but I do know that’s pretty epic.

But I would love to learn German and some dead language, something like Gaulish. Or actually know anything in Latin that doesn’t come from a PayPerView wrestling commercial.

abysmalbeauty's avatar

I haven’t the foggiest but I just wanted to add that if that’s what you really want to do then do it. The new knowledge will actually push out the useless in the sense that you wont think of it anymore :) Less talk more action!

AmWiser's avatar

I prefer to keep all my so called useless information. It took me a long time to aquire it and there’s no telling when I’ll need it….but when I do, it’ll be there. tehehehehe

Coloma's avatar

Well, that’s dementia for you, remembering your 6th grade history speech verbatim, but can’t remember where you parked your car an hour ago. lol

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I like the useless information. It always ends up coming in handy.

I like the idea of learning a lot of languages, though.

woodcutter's avatar

I’m a prolific hoarder and collector of stuff I might have a use for some day in the future. And I never throw anything away. Every time I do that I find myself needing it shortly after. Today I tossed a ton of spent steel casings because they aren’t reloadable but mark my words this will come back to bite me. So I would opt out of brain info delete and hopefully something new will go into the rest of the 90% that is just riding.

Useless info. # 3,564 & 3,565 & 3,566

Did you know, that every time you urinate a small amount of urine is secreted in your saliva?

Did you know, a goose defecates on average every 8 minutes due to the simplicity of their digestive system?

Did you know that Coloma likes to dip her Brussels Sprouts with Miracle Whip? lol

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Coloma woah. In your saliva??

woodcutter's avatar

Really you should go more often.

Coloma's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf

It’s true, according to some obscure trivia book I have, they don’t outline the route. haha

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Coloma it’s true according to Google, also. “When you urinate, a small amount of the urine enters your mouth through the saliva glands. But that’s okay – fresh urine is cleaner than saliva.”

I could have gone without hearing Useless Info #3,564.

woodcutter's avatar

that is pretty interesting though whodah thunk?

filmfann's avatar

I know all the words to a lot of crappy songs from 1960’s TV themes, and from terrible early 60’s pop songs.
I would love to erase that, and be able to fill that space with French or Chinese.

RealEyesRealizeRealLies's avatar

start watching French and Chinese television

More serotonin or whatever the hell it is that relieves depression and anxiety. A language or two. The ability to sing well. Confidence, self-discipline, better social skills and more patience. A reasonable understanding of advanced math.

@Coloma Did you know, that every time you urinate a small amount of urine is secreted in your saliva?

Dude, ew.

Sunny2's avatar

I would not and could not get rid of my useless information. It’s MINE. I still enjoy it. I may not even think of it unless a topic that comes up jiggles my memory, but then there it is!

Berserker's avatar

@Sunny2 You said jiggles, and that was awesome.

Hibernate's avatar

The useless information I got stored in will eventually wash out because of how rarely I use them. I still learn new things all the time though I don’t spend enough time doing it.
