[NSFW] Do you think romantic or erotic mystery has been lost today?

Asked by Shippy (10015points) October 11th, 2012

I love the mystery of the old movies stars, both male and female. They seemed so sophisticated and suave. Any sexual encounters where suggestive and discreet on camera. Plus I doubt there were many roof top photo’s available of them.

Today, it is to my mind, a “hang it all out mentality”. Which do you find more appealing? l think the mystery of a person is what makes them sexy. What do you think?

I prefer to have initial encounters ‘covered’. For me, the mental part is more important than the physical and I don’t let it all hang out until I approve the first part. I realize that’s no longer the ‘style’, but I agree with you @Shippy, what you don’t know about someone can make them more appealing.

Mystery schmystery. Give me the hot naked actors.

I tend not to think about sex much unless their clothes are off. The more that comes off, the more I find the sight arousing. I assume that if the clothes are on, the scene is not about sex. I don’t think there are very many actors these days who know how to carry off smoldering sexuality.

I think in a way the internet is at least partly to blame for this change as everything is now so readily available for anybody that wishes to hunt out any type of a naked body and it is of course big business.

However, I prefer the suggestive and tease and sultry style because it does create that sense of mystery and wonderment and the mind can then race ahead with what lurks beneath.

I love mystery. It’s very sexy and really make me awe for that person, almost making me obsessed. Simple, not mysterious people are nice to be around, but the mystery is what makes me wild. I don’t know if anything has changed, since I’ve pretty much grown up with media. But I do think privacy must be a nice thing to have if you’re celebrity. I would prefer it surely.

Mystery. I just finished a book about stars and starlets in early Hollywood, and the fun thing was that most of them were extremely well-dressed and well-behaved, but kept their dirty little secrets like drug use, extra-marital affairs, sexual orientation, etc…

@Sunny2 I so agree, it is the need to uncover, to find out that makes it so appealing. @wundayatta It takes a fine brain, to make me want to see them naked!

@KNOWITALL Of course, but we didnt know that did we!!

Monroe in Some Like It Hot or Stone in Basic Instinct?
Sex on a stick with most of her clothes on versus legs akimbo beaver flash?
I know which I prefer & there’s not a pube to be seen, except from Curtis’ wig.

I’m old and out of sex appeal myself, but I still remember, vaguely. There are certain things that have massive sex appeal for me when I see them on TV or movies. It can be something as simple as how he looks at her, but this guy makes me smile when he looks at his co-star, or shoots a reaver or ends up naked in the desert. http://www.flickfilosopher.com/blog/2010/09/090110female_gazing_at_nathan_fillio.html

No amount of muscle and nakedness will turn me on if there isn’t a light on behind the eyes. Wit is still sexier to me than flesh. (I am glad there is Nathan Fillian for me to dream about.)
