So, why did Jodi Arias kill Travis Alexander?

Asked by josie (30934points) May 8th, 2013

She claimed self defense. The evidence and the jury determined otherwise.
But I still I am not clear why she killed him. What is the popular theory as to her motive?

I think she thought that she would get back with him if she went and had sex with him. She went to his home without being invited, just happened to show up from Arizona to his home, hundreds of miles away.
I think she had planned on killing him if her plan didn’t work, thus the gun, the gas cans, and possibly the knife.
I think they had sex, had a great time, took pictures in the shower and she thought it was all good between them. For whatever reason during the shower photo op, maybe she mentioned going to Cancun with him and he said no, nothing has changed, or she somehow brought up being a couple again. He says no. She goes and gets the knife and starts stabbing him.
Note: this is all just my theory.

@chyna I think your theory is right on. She’s a selfish manipulative liar that only thinks of herself. When he said no she snapped.

Based on what I’ve read on the case, I think she is a sociopath and I think she had the mindset that if she couldn’t have Travis, then no one could and she was going to make sure of that. That’s not unheard of in motives for murders. It might not make sense to someone who’s not disturbed in that way, but it does happen.

@DominicX I can’t get my head around the idea of why a sociopath thinks that way. I just can’t. If she told me no, I’d look her in the eye and say goodbye. I always thought of love as a rope. You can’t push it uphill, but if she wants to pull it to her I’ll give her 110 percent.

I think some combination of @DominicX and @chyna‘s responses, personally. I followed this case entirely too closely. (I blame @Adirondackwannabe for that ;)
I also think that she is so narcissistic that she believed that she could do it, she could get away with it, and that would make her feel empowered to destroy Travis for not giving her what she wanted. So she did.

@DigitalBlue I bow humbly to your wrath. How can I ever make this up to you?

I’ll survive. :)

@DigitalBlue Don’t I owe you something for subjecting you to this?

So she could be on TV forever or… close to it. And, to really upset Nancy Grace.

Yeah, she was obsessed with him and everything about him. In the photos they show, she was almost always the dominant one, he was either nuzzling her or something more submissive. She couldn’t force him to love her and he was done, she went psycho and killed him. Shot him, slit his throat, stabbed him over two dozen times, that’s a lot of emotion.

I’m interested in seeing if they’ll give her death like she wants. Do you think they should or should she have a lifetime to think about it?

The primary reason is because she is a sociopath.

And anyone who has never had the misfortune of having to deal with a sociopath in real life finds it difficult to comprehend how anyone could be like that (since normal everyday folks are not).

Those of us who’ve ever met a sociopath recognize the similarity with Arias so its not that surprising that an extreme narcissist becomes a stalker and exacts the ultimate price from someone who had the nerve to reject them.

Sociopaths are devoid of a conscience and most people are not so its naturally difficult for anyone to identify with them.
