Why would your friend secretly write down things you say?

Asked by illusionslies (586points) November 13th, 2013

He would ask you something about life, your ideas, and then write them down secretly. And a moment later when you ask them the same thing, they’d reply “same with me”.
Why would anyone even do this unless they’re not copying your words and ideas?

Is this hypothetical or are you describing a real-life scenario?

In either case. how would you know if someone is doing that if he is writing secretly?

In an earlier question you mentioned that you wanted to meet new people. I don’t have good people in my life at the moment.

If this person is bugging you, carry on with the plan of making new friends.

Is he researching for a book or assignment?
Does he think you are just brilliant?
Is he trying to evolve and grow and getting another perspective? (if so you should tell him about fluther…lol)

@gailcalled Happening.
The notebook.

@KNOWITALL Not in particular
The latter works best.

?? If he is indeed transcribing your every word and idea in front of you, why don’t you ask him and not us?

Or simply stop answering his questions until he goes first.

As a variation, the next time he asks you about life and ideas, answer, “The same as yours.”

Or just don’t answer his questions.

Is this really a friend or just an acquaintance or coworker or something? If it’s a friend, just ask, or maybe it’s a joke or maybe you are saying something funny. Sounds like a bizarre interaction to have between two close friends though.

@deni A very close friend. And when I asked he said “because I find it interesting”. I’m still suspicious of his sketchy behavior. I hope he doesn’t steal my quotes, and use them saying he came up with them without giving any credit. He never writes my name beneath it, just my words!

Only he can tell you why… I would get a notebook and have fun doing the same to him.

I used to carry around one of those marble composition books. By the end of high school I had about eight of them, full of random thoughts I had, poems I’d written, things people around me had said, conversations my D&D characters had in my brain, ideas for the novella I was writing for my senior project…

My friends called my book “The Rest of Alyson’s Arm” because I always had it in-hand.

Perhaps your friend, finds it comforting to organize his thoughts on paper, like I did?

Sounds like something a sociopath would do….

I think he is insecure and not confident about himself because, he obviously has no personality or ideas of his own. He may be thinking your ideas are flawless in every way. He may be doing this to cope with his own low self-esteem.

If he’s writing a manifesto, you should alert the proper authorities and get the fuck out of dodge.
