Do you have a heating pad? Put that on your lower back, wrap up in a blanket, ibuprofen, and tea with honey.

Going to the doctor.

Ibuprofen. If you are an adult of average size 3 pills, which totals 600mg. Take with a glass of water and a little food ideally.

It takes 50 minutes for it to kick in so take it now! If you don’t have ibuprofen then take Tylenol.

Once you are past the shivers donot let your fever get out of control again. Take the Ibuprofen every 5–6 hours, before you get too hot. Also, use a cold damp washcloth and wipe down your forehead, thighs, arms and forehead if you fever continues to go up. It feels terrible, but you have to get the fever down if it is very high (over 103).

You have to wake up and take the ibuprofen to make sure you don’t let more than 6 hours go by if you are just starting something like the flu.

What are your other symptoms? Is there any reason to think it isn’t the flu and is something else that might need a doctor? I don’t go to the doctor for the flu.

A long hot soak in the tub!

Araphel's avatar

@ kritiper. I just took a nice hot shower to get of the aches. It helped a lil.

Araphel's avatar

@ jLeslie I took ibuprofen, with very lil homemade chicken soup I’m going to just take it easy for the rest of the evening. Btw my temperature is at 99, Thanks for your concerns.

Have you been to the doctor?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

It’s late Saturday night here guys.

Force the fluids, in addition to the above.
I hope you feel better soon!

@Araphel A shower doesn’t cut it. Fill the tub with hot water, set the timer for about 30 minutes, and climb in. Slide on down so only your nose is sticking out above the water. Now SOAK!

Oh, just 99. A doctor doesn’t even consider it a fever. I do, but I am not a doctor. Do everything you can to stay comfortable. Feel better soon.

When you have a high fever, you don’t want to do things that are going to increase your core body temperature even more, such as the heating pad and wrapping up in blankets. I know it’s hard when you have the chills, but adding more heat can be dangerous. The shakes, shivers, and chills are your body’s own protective measures for getting rid of the fever.

Keep track of your temperature and alternate Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen if you have a fever (above 101). Treating low grade fevers isn’t recommended because those low grade fevers are your body’s way of fighting off something. If you don’t allow your body this opportunity, you could end up feeling worse in the long run.

Drink plenty of fluids and get some rest. Hope you feel better soon.

My dentist told me recently that the ‘super pain reliever’ is “two brown and one white”. 2 Alieve and on Tylenol. Double down if needed.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

I’ve been told that too @ibstubro. Take both ibuprofen and paracetamol (not sure of the brand names where you are) for best pain relief. This worked for toothache for me but I don’t know if it will work in the case of fever and general body aches.

Paracetamol is acetaminophen which goes by the brand name Tylenol in the USA.

Ibuprofen has two brands in the USA: Motrin and Avil. Aleve is the American brand name for naproxen, which is in the same NSAID family as ibuprofen and aspirin, so people shouldn’t combine those.

I believe it would work, @Earthbound_Misfit. Either singly would help, so I think the combo should be effective.

How are you feeling now, @Araphel? Better I hope?
