Do you refuse to go into website that demands an email address, and worse, a credit card number before you can even look at them?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46828points) May 16th, 2017

Deal Dash for example. I just wanted to go look at what they had, but they insisted on my credit card number first. Bai bai!

As far as an email, I have several junk account I can use, but it just kind of make me mad that they do that, so I don’t.

Deal Dash is not a good idea. Link

As the article says, it is technically legitimate, but it is not a good idea for buyers.

Thanks for the info @Hawaii_Jake.

I wouldn’t do it. When Amazon required a card for my TV I put in the numbers for a gift card that had about $5 still on it. .

Yes! One of those damn sites sent a malicious email to friends. (Different than the recent email-malware attack)

An email address is ok. If I have a concern, they get a disposable free email address.

A credit card number is not ok.

zenvelo's avatar

I’m with @Zaku, no CC before deciding to buy something.

^Yeah, I don’t get who would willingly give their credit card info to a random, most likely unsecure site..

Tbag's avatar

Never ever. I wouldn’t mind making an account if I was so interested but the second they ask for a credit card… Arivoir!

My bank (Band of America) offers the ability to make disposable credit card accounts. You can make the amount as low as $5.00 and make it expire when you want. It can also be single use or single payer. They offer this service for free. I carry a single use card in my wallet in case I need to order something online and don’t quite trust the vendor. When i order something from a Chinese supplier I use a card that is only good for one use and has an amount slightly higher than the order.

Well, that’s cool. I think I’ll check with my bank.

Of course.
Even porn sites give you at least some screenshots of their smut videos.

I am yet to see such site which asks for cc first. Email id is fine for me but not cc. That’s a big no if I don’t trust the vendor. @LuckyGuy – That’s a great idea to have disposable cc for single use. So you need to order each time or can get in bulk?

I ask Jeeves, no not the search engine, the elder brother of Carstairs, he knows what’s best.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I gave Deal Dash as an example, @imrainmaker. It was the first two words in the details.

imrainmaker's avatar

Yeah..Need to check that one.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I used to be very interested in that site, but nope.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Yup, they want that stuff ,I stay way way away.

imrainmaker's avatar

Just to give update it did ask me for cc info but allowed to check open auctions / bids without entering cc data. Email id was sufficient to get going in case you’re still interested @Dutchess_III ..))

LuckyGuy's avatar

@imrainmaker It only takes a few minutes to set it up but I always keep a couple “in stock”. It costs nothing and I am not charged anything if I don’t use it. There is no loss.
They call it “ShopSafe”. And it works!

I used to be on a streaming website. It asked for a “free” account before allowing me to watch anything. Normally I don’t like to sign up but I was so curious so I followed the step to sign up. Turned out it was only the first step. The site suddenly asked for my credit card number just to “verify the account” and promise not to “leak the number elsewhere”.

That was when I closed my browser window.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes. I always refuse. Whatever I’m hunting for can be found elsewhere by hook or by crook without me voluntarily giving personal info. The info they get Involuntarily is somethong else and quite enough.

The good ole Dark Pattern.

I’m pretty quick on the back button. I will never sign up for your newsletter. And there are tons of other ways I can kill time. Your shit blog isn’t a big deal to me.

Pandora's avatar

I do the same as you. I use a junk email for junk email.
I never sign onto a site that asks for my credit card number first.

jca's avatar

There’d be no reason for me to give a credit card number unless I were buying something, which I only do from a rare few sites.

si3tech's avatar

@Dutchess_III I tend not to go into sites like that. Zulily s a site you must “log in” to see what they have. That’s off-putting for me. I also hate being asked by site I’m on if I want to share my location. No thanks. I can back out of a site quickly! And I frequently edit/remove bookmarks.
