Does The West Wing have the best theme song of all TV shows, of all time?

Asked by bob_ (21888points) October 7th, 2021

The answer is yes, of course. Please comment on how strongly you agree, and what shows you’d say are distant runners-up.

To Dallasey for me.
The very best is of course Hill Street Blues

Just watching that opening makes me excited. Time to get out the DVDs this winter and rewatch! I need to get positive about politics again.

But I will add that when my son was a toddler, he would stop whatever he was doing and come running in when the “All in the Family” theme song came in.

As far as my own personal preferences, I like the opening song to Mash very much but I would agree that The West Wing theme is very evocative.

I prefer Gilligan’s Island’s theme song.

@ragingloli Just be wrong. Just stand there in your wrongness and be wrong and get used to it.

And let us not forget Riptide, Magnum P.I., Airwolf, CHiPs, SeaQuest DSV, the original Battlestar Galactica or Michel Vaillant.
All better by light years than this bland orchestral nonsense, lol.

You should see a doctor, because you might have an undiagnosed brain tumor.

Original Mission Impossible had a great one

I could sing along with Gilligans Island, Beverly Hillbillies, and other theme songs.

Get Smart theme songs as he walked through the doors.

There are many, many memorable ones.

Or Pink Panther.

gondwanalon's avatar

Green Acres is by far the best of the best!

@elbanditoroso @zenvelo It’s not bad, but the name is totally misleading. It should be “Mission Pretty Hard But Ultimately Doable”.
@ragingloli Okay, Pink Panther is good.

Other contenders @ragingloli didn’t mention yet:

The Avengers
Ironside
The Prisoner
Space: 1999 (Season One and Season Two )
(even) T.J. Hooker

@Hawaii_Jake Which version of GI theme song do you prefer?

Jaxk's avatar

It seems you’re all listing your second place nominations because everyone knows the best is the theme from Cheers. So I’ll post my own second place – The Mickey Mouse Club.

And, one for the girls Friends !

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

@Forever_Free I like the one that lists everybody. I like The Professor. He can make radios from coconuts! And Mary Ann makes the best pies.

I hope some of the above are sarcastic suggestions.

Oh, how could I omit The Streets of San Francisco ?

Certainly one of the best, maybe actually the best.

kritiper's avatar

I’ll take Hawaii-50 and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE

chyna's avatar

I didn’t remember that Sam Elliot was in Mission Impossible!
I watched a lot of your snippets and really want to watch those shows again. Especially Hill Street Blues.

https://youtu.be/8xi172QhAPA Who doesn’t like this classic?

gondwanalon's avatar

@Jaxk I agree. Cheers had a great theme song. Too bad the actual show was so boring. I never watched an entire show.

I was just kidding that Green Acres was best.

Forever_Free's avatar

@zenvelo damned good theme song!

Zaku's avatar

I thought Cheers was entertaining, but I have never liked the theme song.

I continue to stand behind The Streets of San Francisco.
