What portmanteau have you heard or read recently that caused you to stop and think?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37350points) 1 month ago

I read “pokemanizing”. It was meant to mean that a thing was being traded like pokeman cards are traded. I had to stop and recognize that I understood the writer easily. By the way, the writer apologized for the awful word.

Have you read or heard anything recently that you reacted to? Your reaction can be negative or positive.

“c*mflation”. A beautiful word, and you instantly know what it means.

“Bidenomics” was floated about 6–9 months ago but it never really caught on. I actually approve of most of what’s been done economically but the term is not one that flows trippingly off the tongue.

@Zaku I think it refers to a form of porn

@janbb “Bidenomics” (thr portmanteau, not the policy) reminds ne of “Reaganomics”.

Not exactly a portmanteau, but along the lines of your example:

hotgirlification

Basically describes my whole life. ;)

It wasn’t recent, but the one that always sticks out is from my days at the Nuclear Power Plant in OH. One of my fellow technicians was talking to a new hire and they were discussing procedures. My fellow tech said: “We give our procedures updations all the time.”. I fully understood what he was saying, but “updation” is not a word. Since his name was Jamie, we called it a “Jamiation”.
