Your favorite restuarant in Seattle?

Asked by Supergirl (1696points) October 30th, 2008

We are always looking for great restaurants. What is your favorite, what type of fare and why is it your favorite? We are looking for sit down restaurants.

I like the 5 point cafe. Its a great little greasy spoon, perfect for my hangovers while visiting S-town.

Wild Ginger. Pan-asian. It’s delicious!

Okay, so the way my father always takes us there is by going and telling the waitress about what we’re looking for as a table (how many appetizers, entrees) and where our spice comfort levels are. Then he lets her figure out what to feed us. It works SO WELL. Our waitress was really amazing and she had us eating things I would have never thought to order, but it was all very good.

I also like Piroshky Piroshky just across from the Pike Place Market, near the original Starbucks.

They have amazingly cheap and delicious piroshkies (I recommend the salmon one).

Piecora’s (pizza), Janjuree (Thai), Cafe Flora (Vegetarian), El Chupacabra (Mexican), Tutta Bella (Italian), and Mae’s (Breakfast).

La Spiga (fancy Italian with an amazing wine list), Ballet (cheeeeep easy-eatin’ Asian), Piecora’s (best fattest pizza – the top, not the crust, which is thin as it must be – in the west), fancy new Boom Noodle corner of 12th and Pike: all on Cap Hill, the coolest part o town. Also Pho Cyclo, is that its name?, on Broadway, Vietnamese; and Crave on 12th, fabulous food, restaurant so small you have to stand in the street For Ever. Oh and also Tacos Guaymas, which has taco de lengua and horchata, on Broadway near the southernmost QFC. And great murals. Aoki near the Harvard Exit theatre for sushi.

Kingfish Cafe, not on Cap Hill, soul food, brilliant cooking and riotously friendly.

….. I must go to Seattle NOW.

This is more in Bellevue but The Keg

Comedian: I was trying to think of the name of that place yesterday! I like the one by Alderwood Mall. I looooove their three cheese butter. So good on the baked potato. Heck, they’re just an awesome steak house. I’m not a huge MEAT fan, but I like to go there.

I lived on Vancouver Island in the 80’s, and the best restaurant at that time was the Keg ‘N Cleaver, kind of like a Red Lobster but with seafood to die for. Seattle is just a ferry boat ride from Seattle, I wonder if they have one? For that matter, I wonder if Vancouver Island still has one.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

Well, I did a Google to see if there is still Keg ‘N Cleavers, and found out that now they go by “The Keg”, and there are six of them in Washington, just not one in Seattle proper.

I agree with a lot of the suggestions above.

I love Piroshky Piroshky by the market. It sucks you in with the vent that blows that smell right onto the sidewalk. You just can’t walk by without getting one when they’re cooking. I always like some combination of beef, onion, and/or cheese, but the apple ones are nice, too. It’s not a sit down place, though.

Piecora is awesome, and if there’s only two of you you can get a half-pie there and that’s plenty for two hungry people. They also have some decent beers and wines if you eat-in.

Crave is so awesome. In the evenings you can make a reservation. My husband and I tried it once on a Saturday morning and had the most amazing breakfast. So, we decided to go back for dinner. We spent our last anniversary there. The decor is ok, but the food is outstanding. We found ourselves getting some of the wines we had at dinner at the wine shop next door to them after our meal. Yum. The whole dinner was excellent.

There are two awesome burger places. Red Mill Burgers is one of them with great traditional burgers and many many milkshake choices. The fries are really good, too.

The other is Two Bells downtown. They make these burgers on sourdough rolls that are just wonderful. For a great evening downtown, get tickets to a show in cinerama and walk a couple blocks over to Two Bells for burgers and drinks before the show. I saw Dark Knight this way. :^>

The Tamarind Tree at 12th and Jackson is really good. The menu is huge, though. Be ready to skip whole sections if you ever plan to order. We went with a group and shared several things and everything was tasty. I really loved their specialty stuffed crepe.

Cafe Bengodi at 1st and Cherry for lovely rustic Italian food. All the pasta is excellent; the salads are really nice, too. You really want an order of their garlic bread with anything you order, though. It’s so worth it.

Ok, one more. If you’re going swanky do a meal at SixSeven in the Edgewater Hotel. The view, the dinner, the wine pairings, just everything is stunningly beautiful. Take a walk along the waterfront afterward. If you’re not living in Seattle and have a meal there on a pretty summer day, you’ll just want to move to Seattle. Trust me on this one. I know. :^>

Ok, I’ve never tried “The Keg”, but now with multiple recommendations I’ll have to. :^>

Cafe Press on 12th and Madison is a great little restaurant in a European cafe style. Cafe Press has the same owners as Le Pichet but is a less expensive version.

If you want to spend a little more, try Lark a few doors down. Expensive but cheaper than places like Canlis and much much better. They do small plates, local, NW cuisine and an excellent job of it.

For fun little happy hours or a small bite try Kushibar – Japanese street food – or Txori – basque-style tapas and great cocktails.

If you want some warm soup or delicious homestyle meal on a winter night try the Volunteer Park Cafe.

There is such good food in this city I could go on and on! Enjoy trying all these suggestions!

Just moved to Seattle and here are some of my favorites in my neighborhood (Eastlake): Serafina’s, Sitka and Spruce, Eastlake Bar and Grill, 14 Carrot Cafe and Louisa’s. I love my neighborhood and am snowed in but in NO danger of starving right now
