Is it possible to remove a stain from suede boots? How?

Asked by emilyrose (2272points) January 11th, 2009

I think I spilled a drop of cooking oil on my suede boots. Now their is a dark spot. Is there anything I can do?

How long has the stain been there?

Is it REAL leather or an artificial?

There is something on my suede purse. Not sure what it is, but woould also like to know what I can clean it with.

There is a suede cleaner that you can get, but you might be better off taking the pair of shoes to a shoe repair place and getting them professionally cleaned.

It’s probably fake… has been there a few days

If it is oil, you might try dusting it with cornstarch and letting it sit for a while. Brush off the cornstarch the next day, and then blot firmly with paper towels. That should absorb at least some of it. If it’s fake suede, and they weren’t terribly expensive, after the previous steps, you could try mild detergent (dish soap) and water. The main thing is not to rub it around too much, as that could spread the stain and also mess up the ‘nap’ of the suede-ish material.

If they are real suede, take them to a pro. Good luck!

I’m not sure how to get the oil out, but I have a question of my own: How do you get out jelly from suede? I have run into a similar problem… :-/
