When was the last time you cried out of happiness?

Asked by aviona (3260points) April 6th, 2009

And why?

Earlier today, I was just driving, listening to this. I started thinking about how wonderful the boys I have dated are (regardless of how messy and awful our breakups were). I started crying. Even though I can be completely crazy at times they still love me and support me for who I am, even after breaking up. What did I do to attract such magnificent boys?

How about you guys? When/where/why was the last time you cried because you were so consumed and overwhelmed with happiness?

Is ‘far too long ago’ a valid response? I’ve been in a funk :(

Facade's avatar

It was the last time my babe and I had sex :)

‘Far too long ago’ is the response I’m going to go with as well.

That is a special thing for me. But I’m also not very emotional, so any kind of crying incidents are few and far between =/

@aviona ~ I love that song!!

Last November, road trip to Mexico with the girl that I loved. We were all goofy/excited whilst driving there. I was going to meet La Mama and the rest of the familia and I was so very much in love. I was laughing so hard and so damn happy – there was a wee tear.

aviona's avatar

@mcbealer it’s epic, hence the tears

@aviona
I just can’t believe that song made you cry. It made me lower the volume
My ex-years ago moved me like that…but of course men don’t cry. It was just something in my eye. :)

When I asked my (now) ex to marry me and she said yes. What a waste of a happy cry that turned out to be!

F her. She didn’t recognize the winner in @loser

It was just last night and it was because I experienced an orgasm of epic proportions. It wasn’t so much crying as it was vocalizing my pleasure quite loudly. Does that count?

loser's avatar

@Bluefreedom I don’t know if it counts, but I’m very happy for you!

In my most recent relationship, I cried tears of joy the day after we had a very ordinary day. We were painting the guest room, listening to the 70s station on the cable TV system playing “Name That Tune”. We were just so relaxed and the conversation flowed freely…

I cried because it was wonderful to have a day free of the tension that had built between us, and to just enjoy each other’s company the way it should have been. And as I cried, I started to laugh at how most people would think I was ridiculous for finding the beauty in the ordinary.

@hearkat
that’s very touching

Today, actually, but for someone else. My mom was reading me this article about a dog who fell off a boat and swam 5 nautical miles to a deserted island. The dogs owners were devastated because they had thought the dog had drowned, but the dog had managed to survive for 5 months on the island until some (park rangers, I think?) found her and took her back to her family. I guess I just kept thinking about how happy I’d be to have my dog returned to me after being sure it had died.

mangeons's avatar

Hrm… I don’t think I ever have.

I have cried out of sadness in books, and at the near end of Click with Adam Sandler.

aviona's avatar

@electricsky animal stories and things always make me cry. I remember when I watched Pearl Harbor and all the people dying didn’t phase me at all, but then there was a clip of the dog getting thrown into the water and trying to swim to save its life and I was just a wreck! …of course that wasn’t happiness…

electricsky's avatar

@aviona: Me too. I remember I watched this really disturbing movie called Funny Games. The whole family, including a young boy, died, but what really upset me was when they killed the dog…

Saturday. It was my 17th wedding anniversary and my husband said the sweetest thing to me. I started to cry and he was worried he had said something wrong.

When I found out that I will finally be able to end treatments for the foreseeable future! Good thing, too. I think the chemo was starting to cause me to glow – and not in a good way! ;)

Only three times in my entire life. I named those three times Jacob, Kyle, and Emily.

@cak: That’s wonderful news!

3or4monsters's avatar

I can’t remember. :( I have been moved to tears by a song many times, but the emotions were mixed and strong, but not necessarily happy.

MissAusten's avatar

@cak Beautiful news!
@Blondesjon Beautiful kids!

Last time I cried happy tears was a couple of weeks ago. My ten year old daughter was part of a team competition, and seeing her so composed and sure of herself during the event got me all choked up. Here’s a picture of her from a few years ago—the only one I have online. She has all her front teeth now. :)

cak's avatar

@hearkat and @MissAusten – thanks! @MissAusten – how wonderful!

@Blondesjon – beautiful! :)

@3or4monsters – I know the question refers more to happy moments, but I love that feeling, when the music can touch you that much.

Interesting question. It made me realize I NEVER cried out of happiness. I don’t know why.

wundayatta's avatar

Almost every time I hear the kids perform in front of their classmates, I get all choked up from being so proud of them. They seem so amazing!

The other day, they were downstairs playing Heart and Soul together. There are four years and a gender between them, but they get along incredibly well at times. I felt so happy, and I was just choking up, but then I went down and joined in the fun.

I teared up two nights ago, watching “Meet the Robinsons” with my husband. We’d never seen it, and when everything works out the way it’s supposed to at the end, and his son says, “I never thought my dad would be my best friend”, I just welled up.
My husband says I have an over-developed sense of empathy.

On Friday here in Laramie, Elton John gave a three hour fundraiser concert for the Matthew Shepard Foundation. I know it is goofy to cry because of a song, but Elton John sounds so amazing and it was for such a good cause, that I couldn’t help myself.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I cried at a wedding a couple of summers ago.

3or4monsters's avatar

@Les I am a big believer in the idea that large groups of people coming together MATTERS because of positive energy (I know, sounds kind of loopy and new age). These people came to see Elton, but they came also to support human rights and donate to a cause. That Elton could act as a “tuning fork” of sorts to focus the energy to create change is immense and powerful. You were probably not the only one overwhelmed in the crowd. I am sure I would have reacted the same way.

Energy (we can call it enthusiasm, or passion, same thing) goes from the crowd to the performer and back to the crowd again in an endless loop. You took part is something amazing!

Last night actually. I was on the phone with my fiance and he told me he was very proud of me and that I have become a very wonderful woman. That made me tear up. :’)
