My answers fluctuate with my mood somewhat.

I would say at least 85% are serious attempts to answer the question.

13–14% are my attempts at humor, which sometimes work and sometimes don’t.

I hope it is as little as 1–2% that can be snarky orhave an edge, but that is really for others to judge.

50% (attempts) at being witty/funny
45% serious answers/solutions
4% agreeing with others (+ adding lurve to them)
1% apologetic
1% crafting (subsequently deleting it)

I try to give quality answers to good questions. I try to share my expertise in subjects I know well. Sometimes I give funny/clever answers if the mood strikes me, and there are already a dozen serious answers already posted.

And every once in a while, I totally screw up and give shitty answers that have no place on Fluther, but I just can’t control my righteous indignation over what seems like a troll trying to bait the collective. Sometimes, bad questions deserve bad answers.

But I do admit to my mistakes, even after my answer is pulled by the moderators, and apologize for being a fuckhead.

If you could read the answers that I decide not to post you would be amazed. Without a healthy sense of self-censorship, I would have never gotten as much lurve as I have now. Like some of the people who have been here a long time, but dont have a lot of lurve because they are either trolls or simply mean-spirited.

100% honest ones.

My answers are 99% of the time serious and factual, only rarely do I post a joke answer.

jrpowell's avatar

^^ calling bullshit on that.

I give 100% to fluther—somehow that didn’t turn out right.—

I usually try to give a bona-fide answer, but I often succumb to the temptation to make a wise-ass remark (better a wise-ass than a dumb-ass)

I always try to inject a sense of humor, but sometimes my sense of when it’s appropriate seems to be faulty (oh well!)

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@ShanEnri that looks like 300% to me, surely you don’t subscribe to the Ronald Reagan Style of Math, do you?

And remember, if 90% of work is showing up, then all you have to do is give 10% to make it one hundred percent.

@evelyns_pet_zebra: I’ve been here over 2 years, and I don’t have a lot of Lurve. But I generally only post an answer if I feel that I have something to contribute to the discussion. I hope no one considers me a troll or mean-spirited.

marinelife's avatar

@hearkat Certainly not!

I’ve never really analyzed my answers. I just sit here and type away whatever thoughts are brought out by the question and the other responses that might be ahead of me. I do try to self-edit occasionally, because I don’t like being too blunt if I can help it.

I often research my answers to make sure they are factually correct, or to find some information the question has asked for.

Ivan's avatar

I sure do ask a lot of questions about the mods. You can see all of them here.

And by the way Ryan, we’re way ahead of you.

I can’t seem to find the statistical data that represents all the different types of answers that I have given on Fluther. Suffice it to say, I’ve thrown a little bit of everything into the mix at one time or another. So far, that formula has worked pretty well for me and I think I’m going to stick with it.

janbb's avatar

If there’s a problem I think I can help with, I try to be empathetic. If it’s a factual question that I have the answer to, I like to answer (knowing that Gail will correct me when I’m wrong.). If I think of a smart-ass response that isn’t mean-spirited I will often give that. I tend not to type lengthy answers becaue I have carpal tunnel. Breakdown? Probably evenly split between my types of responses.

@hearkat Your responses are great!

ShanEnri's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra I subscribe to no math, perhaps that is why it didn’t work out!?

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@hearkat, I would never assume you are a troll or mean-spirited, sorry if it looked like I was accusing you of that. I think your answers are great.

@ShanEnri could be, of course that math quip was a tongue in cheek remark about a Reagan speech in which he talked about three different things, using the term “on one hand” making it sound like he had three hands.

hearkat's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra: No offense taken! I was just making the point that there are some of us who are long-time members and regular contributors, but who haven’t earned a ton of Lurve. So I don’t believe that Lurve totals are actually a valid measure of a member’s value to the collective.

ShanEnri's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra Never heard the speech myself, but I thought Reagan did have 3 hands?!

tiffyandthewall's avatar

100% badass.

seriously though, i don’t know. 95% babbling nonsense, 4% grammatically incorrect, 1% sarcasm. i ramble on and on and hardly make any sense. it’s always a wonder when i get lurve for an answer i gave that i cringed over while clicking ‘answer!’.
